I've got 16" .223 carbine and want an upper with a little more punch and accuracy. I've shot 7.62 x 39 and 30 06. What would be a good calibre, barrel length and twist etc now and will I need to change out anything on the lower? Thanks for all your help! (Probably should have just bought a .308 service rifle.)

.223 is a very acurate cartige.  Do you mean something for longer ranges? You might go to a 20in. barrel and add some optics.

.223 is pretty accurate but want to go for longer range- 600 yards. I've got 30 06 but I want to sell that rifle and get something similar for the AR platform. It would be nice to many barrels for the lower.

Try a heavier bullet, like 69 to 75 grains.  Both weights are used in CMP matches to reach out to 600 yards.

6.8 SPC might be something to look at: the 115gr. 6.8 Rem Spc reaches speeds of 2650 fps with only 16.5 inches of barrel length---that's 350 fps faster than the 7.62x39 AK 47 and a whooping 117 ft lbs of energy over 5.56 62gr. at 600 yards. 6.8 barrel might be something to look into especially since I can keep the carbine length...

I don't know what to tell you for an AR style platform, but as far as long range semi autos go, you can't beat a barret...

6.5 Grendel would be the way to go for longer ranges, as opposed to the 6.8 SPC.

However, I would stick with heavy 5.56 and .308

I'm shooting 2" at 100yds with Wolf 55gr and it is not that consistent. I'll pick up some good heavy weight ammo and give it a whirl. Thanks guys.
