I see more M3X's around here than anything. Occasional surefires.

ETA: That's in 3-2 SBCT, 2nd ID. I am sure if you go to another unit, you will see other lights. Bottomline is that RFI money is short and the Surefire's are high as hell price wise. There is no "general issue" light to the best of my knowledge. All are bought with unit funds or RFI.

(Note: I do not know the Army supply system inside out, I am sure someone will be along later show an NSN [there is one for everything]. Just be aware that the existence of an NSN does not mean that there is any regular issue or that if requested you will even get the item.)

According to this picture:

CLick for Hi-Def Pic.

I am not 110% sure, but I think the light is a Surefire M951XM07 Tactical Light. Some soldiers carry the pigtail switch, while other lights carry the clickie taillight assembly.

The Surefire MU series with either the ARMS mount or the two screw configuration is the most common issue... but with COT's and RFI... their are other' s out their. But Surefire is the  most prevalent.

When I was in Baghdad during 03, there was a company from the 82nd that was fielding M951's under RFI and several units in the 1st AD/3rd ID also had Surefire M951's. All of them that I saw had the thumbscrew mounts and a large majority had pushbutton tailcaps.

The following image is from the PEOSOLDIER website under the Rapid Fielding Initiative link.
