I say its high time we had a forum dedicated to refinishing. I saw the "retro" thread below, and personally think we need to put in a refinishing forum long before we put in a "retro" forum. Refinishing firearms is a common issue that we deal with, however there isnt a good place to discuss these issues. This should not just be for refinishing AR's, however I would rather see it in the AR section than Armory due to increased traffic.

So who is with me?

sounds pointless.

soon there will be 100 specific AR forums and no general AR forum.

perfect! I love the idea! the general ar15 forum is pointless!, too many times people bring up the same topics over and over, to get want you want to see you have to wade through the "got my first AR" and "Is DPMS good?"  and the always present HKm4 vs the ____ AR ...    again great idea!

I like Stickmans idea of adding it to the BIY section, just something to point folks to the right place to post/seek (like that would really help much, but it might).

ETA: Point being that many posts are in the wrong forum, a new one would only add to the confusion.

Which is why I think the Builder forum could support refinishing without any trouble.  The only change would be that people could go to one place for info, instead of posting it all over the board.  I agree that adding lots of smaller segments doesn't help much, but I also think that the general section is awash in topics.

+1 to what stick said, the problem isnt reall a lack of board, but that the information is scattered throughout the site. There is some good stuff over in armory as well, not just the AR boards.

AR general discussion is my favorite forum for this reason. I can read about a multitude of AR related issues in one place, but if I want specific, serious information about my optic, my mags, or my lights, I can go to the forum. Plus the forums as they are right now pretty much cover every issue most likely to arise with your AR. How often does each individual read a refinish question? 3 - 4 times a week? General AR discussion handles that well.

In short, I think an AR refinish thread would be deader than dead.

So you are against the idea of having refinishing be in with building?  It seems like they belong together....

true, although I think general AR works well enough for refinish questions.  There can only be so many specific dedicated AR forums. It would be another AR pistol forum- having only a fraction of the activity of the other AR forums. 350 topics compared to 3,000 - 40,000 in the others.

Either way, I don't care; not that my opinion matters

BTW- I meant AR refinish FORUM, not thread in my previous post.

I think we have as much of a chance as seeing me go out to the garage and drink a couple gallons of Norrells.....  the thought is interesting, but it won't happen.

How about if we took an existing forum and made the builder section involve refinishing as well.  Building and refinishing kind of go together, and that way it would just be a title change.

That is a sensible solution...except for the part about drinking a gal. of JN's finest out in the garage.

I thinks it's a good idea.
Be good to have a nice general refinishing forum. There's lots of guys on here with great experience in refinishing all types of firearms not just AR's but they are scattered around.

i think it would be good to cetralize it. If the info became great enough it could possible brach out to rifle specific.
AR's, AK's, C&R's.
Search is a great tool, but it doesn't always find everything.

+1 on the Refinishing forum.

Failing that, I like Stickman's idea of combining it with the build forum.

I'd second Stickman's idea of adding it to the BIY section. It seems like a natural fit.
It would be helpful to have the information in one area.
