Just got a brand new 20" pre-ban HBAR from bushy. Will be getting a Bushy Varminter upper later for varmint/predator hunting. But right know this will do and I want to know how good groups people are getting from their barrels.

I searched the threads for this subject but couldn't find anything about group sizes.

How good groups are you guys getting (asking actual users only please) from bushys HBARs?

How many rounds is needed to smooth out the chrome lining?

How many rounds can you shoot before barrel gets hot and groups start to open up?

Anyone tried V-max bullets with moly in the barrels with great success?

Thanks guys!

I've gotten decent groups but I've only shot out to 100 yards which doesn't even begin to show it's potential. On a side note it's not the chrome lining but how it's applied which affects accuracy.

Did you shoot factory or tried to tweak a handload to the rifle? I've got my old superlight barrel to do 1.5MOA @ 100yards with 55gr V-max 23.5 H335 2.200 OAL and was happily surprised from the accuracy obtained from a pencil barrel.

Will take my new upper to the range when they open up the range again.

my own handloads got to under 3/4 moa at 100 yds with the 20 hbar barrel from bushy on my a2

It's a good barrel

May I trouble you for the OAL of your loads? Will my velocity increase with .223 in a 5.56 chamber if I load my rounds to a maximum 2.260 (fits in mags) over my regular 2.200?

Thanks again for your input, looking forward to testing it out tomorrow (unfortunently indoor 50yards)

I have been quite happy with the accuracy of my 16" Bushy H Bar. This particular barrel is quite content with everything I put through it. Premium factory ammo or remanufactured, all obtain 3/4 MOA.

20" V-Match (post-ban, bare muzzle), 16x scope, JP trigger, bipod, 100yds will do 1/2" 5-shot groups with Hornady 55gr V-Max. About 5/8" to 3/4" with USA 45gr JHP. More like 1-1.25" with most ammo, up to about 1.75" with M193 and 3-4" with Wolf.

I have a "24 inch V-match chrome lined 1/9 bushy upper and I have gotten very good groups with it at 100 yards (that is the longest distance I have been able to shoot at) less than 1 MOA. I have used Black hills 69 & 75 grain and they have both performed very well giving me very tight groups. Also WWB 55 grain gave me good results at 100 yards but it was more like 1 1/2 to 2 moa. I do not really know how many rounds you can put through it before the groups open up because my eyes usually fatigue before the barrell gets hot (I like using iron sights and have no scope yet).

Got a .6" 5 shot group @ 50 yards indoors today with a crappy rest with 55gr V-max molys.

How many rounds does it take to break in the chrome lining?

87 rounds.

And I've shot 1.75 MOA with Irons with My Bushy HBAR. Pretty good 100 yard group for my so/so eye sight!

Moly bullets in a chrome lined barrel are a waste of money.

.75" 5-shot groups at 100 yards with my 18" chrome hbar. That's with handloads (53gr. Hornady match HPBT's in front of Varget).

The molys shot better than the regular V-max so I guess they are.

Why is that?
Link Posted: 3/24/2006 6:19:13 AM EDT
ok, post ban bushy a3 20" crome lined hbar
cmc single stage trigger,
dpms vented free float tube
burris ff2 6.5-20x50mm scope

LC or WWC brass
federal match primers
IMR4064 25.8gr
55gr nosler b-tip 2.245" col

groups average between 5/8"-1" all the time, they are a little irratic at first w/ a clean barrel, after 20 rnds or so they stablize to what is stated above

Muzzle velocity is around 2900fps, its good on prarie dogs out to about 250-275 yards

another bullet that groups well is the sierra 45gr flat base soft point
