Alright i am wanting to buy an ar-15. I have found one that im interested in. http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=23
Im not into all the details about ar15s and stuff yet cause im national guard infantry and i only know bout m-4 and m-16. Our unit uses m-4s which is why i chose this one. Its going to be strictly a target practice rifle. Since i cant just walk into our armoury and take out an m-4 whenever i want. I want something that is close to what i will carry in a combat zone with, and that i can get trigger time on whenever i want.. Its got the a1 sights i havent used those before. I was wondering if you guys would help me out a little bit and tell me what to look for and give me some tips on ar15s, and your opinions on this rifle.

You can build a better M4-style carbine yourself, with a little, reading help and some patience.

Personally, I'd go with this first Bushy M4gery

Yeah, it's a bit more $$ but I think you'll enjoy it more in the long run, it's features are similar to those with which you train.  Also (IMO) a much better weapon.  Remember, MSRP is just that.  Pick one up for +/- $850.  Don't worry about getting a carbine or a rifle, at some point you'll have at least one of each--it's inevitable

Also, you'll get alot more feedback if you bump this sometime in the AM hours.

Good luck with whatever you decide on, just check in here (frequently) as there is so much to learn.  Best resource on the net for the black rifle.

Whatever you get should have A2 sights, and the ability to mount whatever optics you'll end up using in the field.  Gotta train like you fight, even if it costs a little more.

ok i have learned that the a1 sights are fixed but the a2 rear sights are moveable. Also i was looking at the bushy above and can someone please explain to me what the difference between the a3 and a2 upper is ?

A2 has the fixed carry handle with the A2 sight (like M16A2).  The A3 is a flattop with Picatinny rail, and comes with a removable carry handle with A2 sight (like the M4A1 and most M4s).

The A2 is pictured.

The A3 has a rail on top of the receiver and a Removable Carry Handle. The A2 has a non Removable Carry Handle on top. Yes that is a A2 in the pic.

Thats what i thought i wasnt for sure though. Well i guess i need the a3 upper cause we use cco's alot. Ive already looked into eotech holographic sight. Ive heard alot of good things about those sights. But that will be later on down the line.

If I were in your boots, I'd opt for a flattop M4 with either a cut carryhandle or LMT back up iron sight. Add an Aimpoint with mount or Eotech.

You can always take your optic and BUIS with you.

I appreciate all the information and keep it coming. I just want to make an "educated buy" meaning buying an ar15 thats not going to be a dud when i get it. Cause i dont want to take a swag on an ar15 and blow money on it one that isnt worth a dam.

ok question time. I know that m-16/m-4 is a 1 in 7 right handed twist. Well i have noticed bush master makes 1 in 7 and 1 in 9 twist. I had neva heard of a 1 in 9. So whats the pros and cons of a 1 in 9 compared to a 1 in 7.

bean58 - Hi, and welcome!  I am not qualified to give you any worthy information regarding your original post.  I am hower qualified to advise you to read the tacked threads, and any and all threads.  If you do that, then think about it, and then re-read them again, you will have no need to bump your thread 87 times.  Three was enough...

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."
