Can the upper and lower of the M16 series rifle or M4 series carbine change with each other ?
for example :
M4A1's upper + M16A2's lower = ?
M16A2's upper + M4A1's lower = ?

Yes, as the M4A1 lower is full-auto. The M16A2 lower is 3-shot burst.

Wouldn't, let's say, Armalite's AR10 patent expire and allow for other companies to make "copies" like has been done with the AR15?

Thanks, Troy. I'm not looking at a .308 AR-type, yet. I was just curious. I figured that since Stoner came up with the AR10 first, the Armalite patent would have expired as well.
