Is the carry handle removable on this model?
Link Posted: 3/1/2006 6:23:44 AM EDT

Shouldn't be.  Generally, the 6520 is a pencil barrel/A2 Carbine.

It's a Match H Bar.

hmmmm....better let the experts check this one out.....all of the 6520s I have seen are either slabside, pencil barrel carbines ( I didn't even KNOW their were 6520 slabbies until I saw the green label box on one a few weeks ago) or the current black, fenced lower pencil barrel carbines.....

what is your alphabetical serial number prefix????

This is a slightly modified Colt 6520.

Okay, the serial number is CMH120***

[#10]
That is a Match Hbar or equivalent.....the experts will know what group that CMH belongs to, I am just fairly sure it's a Match Hbar OR one of the "match Hbar " M4 "clones" that Colt has been making for a while.  I couldn't keep all of Colt's models of the minute straight if I tried.....

Can you post a pic or link to a pic for us?

The Colt AR-15 A2 Gov't Model Carbine is the Model R6520.  It was discontinued in 1994 and does not have a removable carry handle.  It weighs 5.8 pounds without magazine.  The serial number prefix is "GC."  The closest thing to it today from Colt that is still in production, is the Model AR6520.  The serial number prefix on the AR6520 is "LGC."  The weight is the same.

The Colt Match Target - Match HBAR, is Model MT6601 & MT6601C.  Serial Prefix is "CMH."  Still in production.

Well, the original box says R6520 and on the lower it says Match Target and has the prefix CMH.

The only thing I can say is if I could upload pics of it you could see what I see.

Are you the original owner?

If not then a previous owner probably just put a 6520 upper on a match HBAR lower.

I am not the original owner but noticed late last night that the box he gave me is not the box for this particular rifle.  Oh, and the reference to parts gun, that's rude.

Here's RobbieB's Colt. It appears that the box was incorrect, though it is a fine looking weapon.

My apologies.  I didn't know of the term, parts gun.  As far as I know it's not altered, but seeing these pictures it looks as if the upper and lower are different shades of color, doesn't look like that in person.  I was looking at the HWS sights but don't think I can partake in them beings my handle isn't removable.

Can anyone suggest where I might look for a different front stock with rail system so I can work on setting up a light?

Looks like a 6520 upper on a 6601 lower.  A parts gun.  In M1 Carbine lingo a mix master.  Or as the FAL guys say, frankengun.

ALL my Colt's are mix master franken parts guns.

The lower looks just like my 6601 with the sear block. I am pretty sure that this one did not come with the bayonet lug on the upper. It may be a different upper and lower. What does it say on the top of the barrel?

I will have to look at it when I get home.

Yup, still, everything is Pony by the looks of it and what matters is that it shoots and shoots good.

Don't feel bad, Robbie, about not knowing Colt model numbers and such....I can NEVER, EVER keep any of it straight......

Like Ekie, my Colts are, in many instances, build ups and parts guns and the reason I do it is for a particular functionality that I am looking for.  There is a lot you could do with that 6520/CMH gun....you could even degrease the upper and spray some really dark grey Norrels on it and match up the upper and lower ( or have someone do it for you )..... It's a decent little carbine and you should enjoy it.

Your lower is identical to mine. The number on mine is CMH097** so I would guess that yours was made after mine. I bought mine brand new after the ban had started. Mine is dated 1996. I dont think the upper you have came on this gun. 1. it should say  C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 HBAR
2. For the year the lower was made it should not have had the bayonet lug or flash hider. If you feel like it you can pull the hand guards off and look at the barrel, there should be a date stamp on it somewhere ( very small) like 9/96. I would bet the date on the barrel will not match the lower. In any case its a great rifle . Good luck.

I took the front stock off and I didn't see a date code.  Right behind the front sight there was a 47 stamped there and on the opposite side near the action there was a O.

I don't think it is a date code, seems to me it is a barrel lot code.
