Are they really S&W or subcontracted?  Just curious, thanks in advance.

I would bet S&W assembles them in house from a mixture of purchased and made-in-house parts.  Just like everyone else.

Are you saying that S&W use CMT stripped lowers and uppers to make their own rifle, or that CMT makes the rifle 100% for Smith & Wesson?

That is the question.

Thats better than the $1,400- $1,500 I saw somewhere. But that may have been for the railed, BUIS equipped model.

STAG and CMT are related, aren't they?

as i understand it  they are built  inhouse wth CMT parts , but that is all rumors and stories so who knows .
I have saw a few standard M4 type smiths at  the local gun show for around $975-$1050

Stopped in the local gun shop today and they have one of the new S&W's, the basic model.  Looks like a very nice rifle.  They wanted $975 for it, which is what they were asking for the Bushmaster identical in configuration sitting next to it.  A little steep, for both.

IMHO , they are probably as well made as any of the Major MFG. ARs.

I think the prices will settle down on the Base model after a while.
No reason they should cost more than $900 street price , other than the usual
"new kid on the Block" syndrome.
