First there was TAN, then there was COYOTE BROWN, and now there is FLAT EARTH BROWN.

First there was OD GREEEN, now there is RANGER GREEN.

Don't even get me started on BLACK!!!

And while I'm at it, where is the PLUM?

Pick a color AND a name!!!

I prefer Black. Most of the colors among different mfgs don't match each other. Krylon, DuraCoat or KG was always the best solution

I feel for you. I'll bet nothing thins out the profit margin like inventory. Brown is in, brown is out, green is in, green is out....

Oooops, new shade of green, all the (old) brand new stuff goes into clearance.....

Got any Plum?

You know, I bet that lavender rifle is less visible at night than a black one. I doubt we'll see it catch on though. Remember how Boeing engineers determined that pastel colors were less visible than black, but they couldn't get fighter pilots to fly a plane that was painted in sissy colors?

The high altitude recon Spitfire was pink or pastel blue.

I always thought DESERT CAMOUFLAGE PINK was a cool color. If I ever get a Land Rover, that's what it will be.

Has anyone other than the Soviets used Plum? I've never used Plum, and I've never seem much about it. Is it any good?

still waiting for "Contractor Cobalt"........"Putting the calm cobalt blue color of Spec Ops back into firearms finishes.....".

Marketing is pretty sad at times.

dont try to collect all of the colors!

I can see the camo ARs for hunting, or maybe SHTF use, but most people just get them because they are "cool". I like my guns how I like my coffee...

WTH is Ranger green??

I like the OD furniture I have on my one carbine because it blends in better to my camo and the trees while I'm out hunting compared to my all-black M4gery.

How about "complete absence of reflectivity black?" Seriously. Flatter than flat black; a black so black that carbon black gets green with envy. Seriously. Make it ALL black and really, REALLY black.

But what about settings where black would be more noticable than some other color? Introducing: camo covers for the rifle!!! Seriously. It's very doable. Something that enhances the cheekweld for the stock (various styles for various stocks), a knit "sock" for the grip (which should also enhance gripping of course), and a sleeve for the forend that passes air easily to prevent heat buildup. Seriously.

Why not take all of this seriously? Unless you go DuraCoat (or similar product) and change the color of the WHOLE RIFLE, it will stand out by the contrast between the barrel and receivers and the colored handguards, grips and stocks.

I like black of any shade but no gloss thank you.

Not military here, but it might be nice to let the bad guy trying to kill my family see a bright yellow one just so he knows he is gonna die from a pussy colored carbine.

Thanks for lifting my post from another thread BITCH!

Couldn't figure out how to leave out the first two pics or just didn't know they were all separate?

Are those Jets Israeli? The Israelis seem to like salmon colored aircraft.

Da_Bunny- those airplanes match your avatar pretty nicely!
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 9:03:06 PM EDT
Okay, let's see what types of color chemes we have:

COYOTE BROWN
RANGER GREEN
FOLIAGE GREEN
FLAT EARTH BROWN
UN BLUE
HOT PINK
RANGE ORANGE (AKA LESS LETHAL)
CRIMSON RED

I can go on and on... But I will not.

Now, if you have seen the old Magpuls and how many colors you can get them in (red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, dark blue, magenta, purple white, grey, black, tan, OD), then you know how crazy it can get.

You have this guy...

Decorating your AR.

Those are British RAF Jaguars; the Israelis fly mostly US made fighter planes; their camouflaged ones are the F-16 "Barak" (Lightning); which is painted in a 3 color scheme of earth brown, desert tan and a weird minty green color.

Link Posted: 2/19/2006 9:12:30 PM EDT
Don't forget Colt Dark Grey!

What about foliage green? The greyer cousing of ranger green. That's what I'm waiting for.

And about that damn coyote brown? Which manufacturers version? I've seen a few versions of a brown that were called coyote by different makers, finishers, nylon gear makers.

And don't forget HK's, almost, but not quite semi-gloss/semi-flat black.

I still wanna see fricken Flecktarn or ACU camo on an AR. >.< (seriously)

LOL at the pic from Black-Tiger.

Off topic but it reminded me of Sam Kinison's last CD.

"his name is Richard, but it should be dick, dick, dick, 'cause that's all he sucks!"
Link Posted: 2/20/2006 2:03:17 PM EDT

I seriously doubt these guys give a rat's ass whether or not their "Coyote brown" matches their "Flat Earth Brown"
Link Posted: 2/20/2006 2:21:34 PM EDT
I'll just stick to my OD Green.

Thing is, what's popular on the market depends ENTIRELY on what the US Forces are doing at the time. Since they're over in desert environments, everyone is marketing Coyote and all the variants previously mentioned. When something's released, it's done FIRST in Coyote, SECOND in Black, and, if you're lucky, later on down the line, in OD.

I can't wait for you guys to go somewhere jungle-y. Then OD will be back in style.

No shit, _DR. I have 3 colors on my AR, not counting black. Matching furniture looks nice but it isn't the end of the world.

I like coyote. It works better than OD around here most of the year.
