Today while shooting I looked at my empty cases for the first time in a while, I noticed weird marks, almost gashes, on the back by the primer.  I was shooting both Wolf and Win 3131.

The scratches were going outward, I know this because some of them were deep enough that it lifted a tiny piece of brass leaving a burr around the rim.  Most of them were very light, tho.

The rifle is a Bushy 14.5.

Any ideas what is making the marks/scratches/gashes.

Sounds like you may have a burr on the bolt face. Maybe around the firing pin hole? Or maybe it's just normal machine marks. Without seeing the bases it's kinda' hard to say. I would take a good look at the bolt face for a burr, though. If it's too bad I would see about knocking it down or taking the bolt to a gunsmith and have him take care of it if it's very big. If it's a little one I probably wouldn't worry about it. The more you shoot the gun the sooner it'll disappear on it's own. Again, rather hard to say without seeing it or good pics.

I couldn't say really with the description. Could you post a picture of it? Thanks.
