Will putting a A2 Flash Hider on my Colt Post-ban H-Bar barrel have any negitive effect on accuracy?
This thing is a tack driver & I don't want to screw that up......, but I've been doing some low light coyote hunting & I'd really like to neutralize the muzzle flash!!  Thanks in advance!!

I did that to my colt, but a 5c2 on it and you'll like it better, oh and you won't notice anything

The general consensus is that unless you're a high-master trying to make the President's Hundred, it will not make a significant difference.
ETA: Just make sure that the tension is on the light side. |

anyone know if muzzle brakes reduce or improve accuracy\velocity as well?

The AMU determined several years ago, that over-torquing the muzzle device does have an adverse effect on accuracy, and recommends only a little bit tighter than hand-tight.
Whatever you choose, don't crank the hell out of it when you put it on. I find that using a peel-washer allows this to be done easier than a crush washer, but whatever type of washer you use, get it close enough so it only requires a relatively small amount of final rotation to get it indexed and reasonably tight. Cranking it on like a gorilla will hurt your accuracy. |

Would it be ok to initally over tighten / over index the FH and then back it off to where it is only snug when properly indexed?

I suppose as long as you are reasonably sure that you have not done any muzzle deformation by the initial overtightening, that might be ok. I don't see any advantage to doing it that way, and it might have a detrimental effect, depending on how much torque you put on it in the initial overtightening. If possible, just index it correctly the first time, with the final 1/8 turn(or something like that) being the final tightening rotation(which will bring index to the top, and be nominally tight at the same time). That's the procedure that I would recommend. |

It will affect barrel harmonics. Just giving you a heads up in case you really are trying to get into the "President's own."
If your gun is shooting tight now, odds are that the barrel's node is at the crown, which is good. Adding weight will displace that node and cause the crown to vibrate when a shot is fired. You shouldn't notice the change but it's good to be informed. |

After serious thought....., I think I'll just leave this one alone!!
It's just too sweet a shooter to roll the dice on!! I think this is one of those 1 in 1,000 barrels that is perfect the way it is. I'll live with the muzzle flash! Thanks for your input, you guys rock!!

A Vortex weighs over 3 oz. Putting that much weight on the end of a barrel can either help or harm barrel harmonics.
