What kind of neat things can I rig up with paracord on my AR-15?  I know about the paracord magpul's but what else can I do with paracord?

Any type of cool custom sling, grips, etc. that I could make with paracord?

Thanks

PS. I have a 20" A3

I used some OD paracord to whip my forward grip.  Gives it a bigger grip and a good texture.

I heard somewhere about paracord sling mounts, does anyone have a picture of this or know how to do it?

Thanks

I do not allow any metal or hard plastic attchements next to the rifle due to noise... but do not use 550, use techcord for the heat. Just tie it on, I am sure there is no extra credit for appearance is there? Oh hell, use a triple fishermans bend, holds well and chics dig it...

I have top mount sling addapters made out of para-cord on most of my weapons.

I have a 16 inch V-Match with the FF tube wrappped in green para-cord. It took 40 feet to do.  I also wrapped the A-2 grip to fatten it up a litttle.

I'm working on a 40 lead x 15 bight Turks Head made from black para cord to go on my ff tube. I'll post picks once it's done.

Use 550 to dummy cord it to yourself.  This way the rifle won't become separated from the most important accessory.....the operator.

For my AR pistol build I got a Armalite fiberglass FF tube off the EE. I've made this 41 lead x 14 bite Turks Head to cover the FF tube. I've used  black and tan paracord. I still have some tightening to do before it's done though. More pics once the pistol is all done.

I did the A2 pistol grip wrapped in para cord.  It's VERY comfortable as it fattens up the grip a bit and makes it mold to your hand a bit better.

Thank you. Due to the time it takes the mail to get here (Guam), I'm still waiting on my barrel, lower receiver, and pretty much all the other parts lol. All I have in hand is the upper, FH, and few misc items. Everything else has been ordered and paid for (except the B, BC & pin), just waiting for the mailman to deliver. Hoping to have it all together soon.

I really don't have directions other than pointing you towards the ASHLEY BOOK OF KNOTS  and the IGKT (my other hobbie is making stuff like this sample pics). I've learned alot from this book and many others, and the folks in the guild. So far I have about 8-10 hours into that one and I'm only about half done. I still have to pull it all tight, which will shrink it down about another 1/2 inch or so. I have 50 feet of black and 50 feet of tan paracord on there right now.

You guys are VERY creative. The only thing I've used para-cord for is wrapping a knife, maybe an improvised snare or two and it helps me get from the plane/helo to the ground safely......along with the chute of course.

It looks like a pull loop, so that you can pull both legs back/down at once.  If this is the purpose, VERY good idea.  I may have to try that with my bipod.

It's crap like this thread that makes this site a joke.  Para cord is for emergencies and improvised solutions in the field.  It MELTS like crazy.  Don't use it to attach a sling to your FSB.   Don't wrap your rail in it.  It will come lose at the worst time...like 3 days into a week long trip in the rain when your hands are wet and you are trying to runthe gun hard or it will hang on your gear...or the door lock on the vehicle window sil...

Maybe we should have a thread about duct taping lights to the forearm or supergluing ACOGs on.

Just get the propper mounts and do it right.

WOW, had no idea para cord was so dangerous. lol We better tell those guys that jump out of airplanes with those things on their backs.....  um, I think they call them PARAchutes, not to jump on a hot day.. or their PARA cord might melt. Maybe they should use duct tape instead.

The paracord is on the FF tube, which is where my hand goes. I have yet to get a hand guard so hot that I couldn't hold it......   If it's not to hot for me to hold on too, there is no way it's going to melt the paracord....

In the event that this idea does not work and it turns out to be a problem with the heat, then I can easily transfer this to my 4 D cell Maglite.

Thanks again guys for all the kind comments. More pics once it's all assembled.

I didn't mean to sound like 550 cord is crap.  It isn't.  It just gets old to see things done half a$$ when it is a life safety tool.  I saw more guys overseas with 550 cord tied to their rifles.  You could tell the guys that rarely trained bc they have like 2 or even 3 standard slings linked together, then tied to the FSB with 550 cord so the rifle could flop around on their back in a low carry position.  It was a joke.  Not to mention what would happen after a few mags when your sling attachment point melts...  Some guys even had it tied directly to the barrel.

My point was to just do whatever it is right and not improvise a home made solution when it comes to a life safety tool like a rifle.

The grip looks as if someone broke a Strider knife and welded it to the rifle to make a grip; killer.
