I saw this on the front page of the news paper today, look closely, the marine has his carry handle mounted on the right side of his 4 rail HGs, while the ACOG is on the receiver.

That man is hardcore.  I believe that he is reinlisting while in combat.

God bless our fighting men, regardless of where they store their Carry Handle.

Yes he is. Staff Sgt. Dennis Nash, he's from a town near me, he joined in '93, he earned the Bronze Star for his actions on 9 November 2004, in operation "Phantom Fury" in Fallujah.

It's just someplace to put the carry handle so it doesn't get lost.

Pretty much standard data, been done for years.

Actually.................I've seen a rig with a swiveling butt-stock and a tri-rail upper, it had differant scopes/sights/optics on each of three sides, they claimed it was for shooting at differant ranges, just turn the weapon and use the apropriet optic.

Not new.  Many units have had it as SOP for some time.

I hate to inject anything like a cynical point here, but reenlisting in a combat zone guarantees that any bonuses are tax free, whether they're paid in a lump sum at the time of reenlisting or over several years.   This looka a lot like a staged photo-op.  Not that I think that's all the guy in the photo is thinking about, but it has to be somewhere in his thinking.  I just hope he stays safe and gets home to enjoy the money.

And I've seen people keep their handles/BUISs/etc. on unused rails for a while now.  It makes sense.

Very true, but I don't believe an 0369 MOS Marine will get  either a 0.0,  .5 or 1.5 (meaning almost no bonus) this year.
