I've always been a collector (packrat).  When I'm collect something, I have this "need" to have one of everythng. It sarted young- Hot Wheels, Star Wars etc.

Right now it's ARs
I have 20", 16" and pistol
I'm always looking to justify "just one more"- BRD

How do you justify having sooo many AR15s?
Here's one way to justify them and more:
check list-
First, do you have one of each?
20" ?
18" ?
16" ?
pistol?

2nd do you have one of every configuration?
20"- SP1, target, varmint, sniper
18" - SPR
16" - M4, target, uber tactical, midlength

3rd Do you have one of every color?
Black
OD Green
Coyote Brown/Tan
camo- forest, desert, urban

4rth Do you have one of every mfg or at least the ones that you prefer?

5th Do all of your rifles from the first step meet the criteria for #2 #3 and #4?
If not, you have more shopping/building to do.

Edit to add: this doesn't even touch SBRs and other caliber options.

I buy tools

I don't "collect" guns.

So I'd have to answer NO to virtually every question, but that's fine with me.

I 've got, or I should say my wifes got the 20" A-2, The 16" Heavy Barreled M-4, and the Carbon 15-21S Pistol. All 3 are really good shooters. She's really good on the magazine changes! Not too far off from Val Kilmer in the movie, "Heat"!  I need to get one of her with the M-4 on video! Bill T.

The 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution justifies it for you and everyone else.

For me... I'm a materiallistic bastard who likes guns... do the math.
That said... I only have one (16") AR now. Had two... sold one... planning on buying a 9mm AR bringing me back up to 2. I may go for three one day (a 20+"). That'll be all I'll ever need or want.

I know what you mean. Mine just knows that I have a bunch and that they all look alike.
Her- is that one new?
me- No (I bought it used)
I just keep buying parts. They just happen to end up as new toys.

Compaired to the collections I have seen here...
I rate pretty poorly.

But in my eyes I have the best rifles in the world.

1 Colt 20"
1 mix-master M4
1 mix-master Model 604 "A0" slab side 20"

I am currently building a Colt 16"  "CAR" type.

since I know what I built them with, I would take them to war if I needed to.

I don't collect. Collecting is pointless. They are tools to me, just like the other fellow said.

I have 2.

A 6520 with Aimpoint for all work under 200 yards...and a 20" BCM upper with Burris for everything over 200 yards.

If money is an issue, and it usually is for most people, it's better to invest in 1-2 really high quality AR's with good parts, than to get 4 so-so ARs. Whatever the case, spend whatever it takes to achieve an AR that fucntions perfectly, and is made well enough to fire thousands and thousands of rounds in its life without breakage.

Yes I have too many, but I bought or built one so that each of my kids when they were married would receive one of them. (I pick the configuration)

I also would end up with one or so left over for me.

(I have a large family )

I have a very nice AR collection, with each at least $3000 invested into each one (optics & accessories).

I have a meager 3.

Bushmaster Dissipator A2 and A3:

Professional Ordnance Carbon 15:

Since this pic I have removed the Bushnell and put a Leupold on it.  This Pro-Ord Carbon 15 is a pre-assemlyline.  That is to say it was hand fitted during the early days of Pro-Ord's history.  Not the barrel is parkerized instead of stainless.  The barrel and chamber are also chrome lined.  I've never had a problem with it but I've never really treated it like it was an assault rifle.

I only have two.  A 16" Rock River with eotech and an 18 1/2" Stag build in  6X45 Rem. , coyote brown furniture, with a Leupold 3X9 PR.  Like a couple of the other guys said, I don't collect ARs, I buy tools toys.

Dont forget about different calibers.
I have a 5.56, just finished my 9mm build, and am now eyeing a .308
Add that to the different lengths, colors, furniture, etc. and then you have problems.

I don't think you're really a junky till you have several of the same. I've got 4 20"ers, every one with triangle HGs.

I've also got a XM177. I had to resist builing another XM177, so I went to buy a 16" pencil barrel, but they only had M4s, so that's what I'm building next, M4.
