Why would you NOT want a piston system in your AR is my question...

No decrease in accuracy
Need to clean is reduced
Gas in face is removed, especially with suppressed weapons
Increased bolt life compared to direct impingement
Reduced recoil leads to faster follow ups
Improved reliability of extraction
Ability to cycle subsonic ammunition
No increase in weight

All I see are positives and no negatives.  Why would someone NOT want it other than the increase in cost?

Right now i'd say the major negative would be that if you want spare parts for it it's proprietary. So spare parts are not as accessable.  But thats about the only one that I can think of.

Explain to me how a piston could increase velocity?!...

It could be because the L-W gas piston uses only 5% of the gas to cycle the action.

Other than that, it beats me.

What CitySlicker said.

Someone posted that one of the board members was seeing higher velocities out of his LW gas piston upper when he was chronoing loads. So thats why I added that to DevL's observations.

I personally believe his barrel wear was the difference he saw on the LMT 10" compared to the LW 10" with gas piston.  He could always pull his nozzle and swap carriers and try the same barrel with direct impingement to be sure.
