I was at my local Wal-Mart today, I made my usual trip through the magazine rack I found a great mag.  Guns and Ammo has teamed up with "Surefire" to publish a great special edition.  There are many articles relating to tac lights (i.e. selection;use;types etc.) In addition, there were many good articles on defensive carbine use with a few drills to augment the reading.  The mag was well worth the $8.00 price tag.  It will not replace any real world training or attendance at any of the reputable training centers, but until I have both the time and extra coin in my pocket to attend one of these courses it will have to do.

They sure do lay the praise on themselves pretty thick. I know how to read something and cut through the crap, but their self praise does look kind of pathetic to me.

Still a good read.

I saw that, and I wondered who would shell out that much money for what is basically a surfire catalog.  Glad you liked it, but I'll pass.

This was their second issue. Last years was also great. It's a heck of a lot more than just a catalog and anyone who would have read it would have seen that.

You bought one for 8 bucks? They were giving them away for free at Sportsman's Warehouse!  I have a copy in my car, but the only reason i got it was because there's some nice Aimpoint pics in it.

All I am telling you is I know a lot of people who are interested in these lights. And like anything, more goes into product selection, mounting and actual use than meets the eye. The magazine goes over all of this helping people decide which lights mightbe best for their needs, which way is best to mount them, the differences in the lights, and how to use them once you have them on.

While all the lights pictured in the article on how to use a light were obviously Surefire, the article is helpful to anyone and everyone who has and or uses a light regardless of who makes it. The same goes for their article on using a shotgun. While all the shotguns were outfitted with Surefires, it doesnt have anything to do with Surefire unless I am mistaken.

You may think the magazine is a waste, and I am not arguing that to you, FOR YOU it may very well be. All I am saying is I have seen the magazine help several people who are interested in and own tactical flashlights. Some of them own Surefires, some of them own other brands, some of them own both.

Therefore I saw it as a whole lot more than a catalog which would only you show you a product line, some basic info, and how much it costs. In fact, I dont think there is a single price listed in the magazine at all.

Like Combat_Jack, I think most here can cut away the BS and get some decent info from this or any other publication we see. I've spent a whole lot more than $8 to learn less than what's in this magazine, and if you can get it free, well, it's your loss if you don't take a few minutes and see what's there. JMO
