I have been a huge fan of researching AR related info on this web site and finally purchased my 1st AR15. I purchased a Bushmaster XM15E2 in A3 confuguration with a 20inch upper and a 1/9 twist. I bought it from a friends dad who purchased the firearm in 01/02. He takes good care of his guns and its in great condition.... I payed $550. My question is did I get as good of a deal as I think??

Welcome Johnny

Well, let me see how you define a good deal!!!  If it is the fact that you have started down the dark slippery slope of dreaded BRD [naughty] (black rifle disease), a terrible addiction that will slowly suck the life out of your wallet, bank account, credit cards, and possibly marriage, NO MY FRIEND, you got a terrible deal..... [nono]

However, if you are talking about the rifle, sounds like you did GREAT [headbang], but if you have any doubts, I'd probably give ya what you got in it to take it off your hands [rofl2]

Welcome aboard

After doing my research, I decided upon the BM XM15E2 A3 20'' as well.

My concern is that you paid $550 and I got chewed out of another $300 when I picked up my first baby.  It was worth every cent though.

Congrats on your find.   I'm not at liberty to say "Welcome to the club" of ARFcommers since I'm new as well :)    Don't forget to buy lots of mags!

Thanks everyone! I am already saving for my next purchase, a 16in collapsable stock with all the "evil" features [}:D] that I will purchase when the ban sunset's. That is if it is not replace by another stupid unconstitutional law.... thanks

Save for the magpul.  Those things are sweet IMO.  Buying one if/when the ban sunsets too.

Congratulations!  Have you shot it yet?  That's when you really get "BRD".  I got my AR just two weeks ago.  My (unsolicited) advice?  Go have fun with the gun; don't just polish it and look at it in the safe.  I've already gotten mine scuffed up and dirty from hunting. It cleaned right up. Though the first scuff sucked, I feel like I have used the gun as it's intended.

Again, Congrats!!!

Johnny,

Whew man, you may not have much left to eat!!  Try it out on a coke can (preferably unopened) and see what happens!!  Man will the bunny fur fly [:D]

Course it will be already tenderized.

Could have had a 7.62x39 AK and a 5.45x39 AK for that price...  Hell, if you shopped frugally you could have gotten those two plus a .223 AK for $550.

Don't believe me?  Last week I paid $70 for a well used SAR-1 AK47...  100% functional, was just very dirty and cleaned up nice.  This time last year I picked up a Romak 2 5.45x39 AK and a Russina SKS unfired for $350...  so Figure $175 at the most.  That brings us to around $250...  With the last $300 a SAR-3 or a .223 Saiga is more than doable...

On the other hand, as far as a Bushy AR goes, that is an awesome deal!  I bought a 20 inch A2 Hbar on a Bushy lower as my first AR and had around $650 into it.  Coal Creek Armory gave me $675 in trade toward the SEBR AR10 recently.  You beat what I had into mine by a mile, and its an A3 flat-top, bonus!
