Im thinking of buying the Olympic Arms CAR 97 M4. Ive read about the ammo differences between the .223 and nato 5.56. Does anyone know or own one of these and are they marked 5.56 or .223 Remington???? What do you shoot in your gun????

The Oly M4 is chambered for the NATO 5.56. It will shoot .223 with no problem. The 5.56 chamber is very slightly larger spec to accomodate dirt, carbon ect in military rifles. I have both an SUM and an M4. I shoot .223 sized cases in my SUM (min. SAAMI chamber) and whatever in the M4. It will digest pretty much anything you throw at it.

I am purchasing one of these as we speak. It seems the best bang for the buck.

The barrel will be stamped "5.56" on the superior aspect forward of the front sight post. I shoot .223 match loads (Black Hills or hornady) for x-ring shooting, and 5.56 for plinking or rapid fire with the cheaper surplus M193.

Old Troop, go for it. I have owned several Olympic Arms rifles and I like the quality and especially the price. If I was not on the hunt for a preban Colt, I would have some more. I hope this helps. max
