How would you describe the correct sight picture on an AR15?  I tried to describe it to my girlfriend before she shot my AR, and I found it rather difficult.

Thanks

The easiest way to teach my wife was to show her a diagram of what a proper sight picture looked like. The owners manuals in my Colts had diagrams for 6 o'clock hold etc.

If your owners manual doesn't you could always draw a picture or try to find a pic on the web.

EDIT: This isn't the best example, but the diagram on the bottom shows proper sight picture:

Top of front sight centered in rear peep sight.
Intended target rest on top of front sight.

Ditto...
That is why the Match Rear Sight peep hole is smaller - it makes it easier to find the center of the rear "peep" hole...

Pages 15-16. Although, it wouldn't hurt to have her read the entire chapter.

Second what Troy said, in addition to proper sight alignment, she needs to understand the part about focusing on the front sight to get good accuracy.

Thanks for all the tips.  I'm just glad she got over her jitters on firing anything over .32ACP.

That day, she anxiously wanted to fire my Glock 30, 1911, and XD40, and My Mossberg 500 with 00 loaded in it.

She still refuses, however, to fire my Mosin Nagant M38 because it looks "ugly" and "smells" (the stock still smells like cosmoline)

If you are concerned with her anticipating recoil--don't let her fire that M38!

My brother in law was an Army Drill Instructor. When he come over later today, I'll have him type something up.
