I can't believe I never noticed them before, but on the trigger and hammer pins there are 2 milled recesses about halfway between center on each.

What are these for? Are they machined in to prevent the pins from walking?

The one in the middle butts against the wire going thru the center of the hammer, when it's in place. The one on the outside is nested by one of the arms of the hammer spring.

Yes, they are to keep the pins from walking when in place.
