I hear that the Brady Ban will be removed in a year or so. Does anyone know facts on this issue. If anyone I will post it on my auction site.

Theyle let the Brady expire & replace it with a far worse ban. Youll see. [:(] TG

What exactly is the "Brady Ban"???
Link Posted: 10/5/2003 12:34:36 PM EDT
If you are talking about the 1994 "AWB," than yes, it will expire next sept. 14th. And that will be a day of great rejoycing. We need to have a huge AFTERBAN party/shoot when this goes away.

This BS has about as much chance of going away as Janet Reno has becoming a Playboy centerfold.

Oh, crap. No THIS repetitive question again? For the umpteenth time, once again: YES, the freaking ban is going to sunset! That's definite. What's to worry about is whether or not new legislation will replace it. The answer there is a pretty definite NO. I say this because this isn't 1994, Clinton isn't President, and Republicans dominate politics now. And, the Democrats haven't forgotten the BLOODBATH at the polls in the Congressional elections following the enacting of the '94 ban, in which case some FIFTY (or was it sixty?) Democratic congressmen who voted FOR the ban got voted OUT of office on their own re-election bids! An unusually high number, to say the least! Any Democrat with a memory and/or a brain is now officially and formally GUN SHY. They want NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ISSUE, at least if they ever want to get re-elected! Facts: Any new legislation to replace the ban or even extend the existing one would have to go through the same process as any other bill, which is that IT MUST PASS BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS INDIVIDUALLY. ONE IS NOT ENOUGH, IT HAS TO PASS BOTH. In THIS Congress, there's a chance that such a bill MIGHT make it through the Senate, but there's practically NO chance that it'd survive the House. And if it doesn't survive the House, it's DEAD. Or, if it didn't pass the Senate, it'd be dead. Both the House and Senate versions, assuming they both passed, would then go to committee for reconciliation, to ensure that the bill in its final form is acceptable to both the House and Senate, and then the final version gets voted on AGAIN by both Houses. But only if it got this far to begin with. The President could STILL veto the bill, and if he hears the winds blowing hard enough so close to an election, he MIGHT veto it...but he won't because he'll never even see the bill on his desk. So he won't sign it, either. Right now, we have the most pro-gun Congress we've had in at least the past thirty years, or at least, it's the LEAST anti-gun Congress we've had for that long The House leadership has publicly sworn that no such bill will even get out of the House Committees for a floor vote, and those committees are controlled by friends of our rights. The average gun owner is far more awake and aware of the battles over his gun rights now than ten years ago. We're more active, making more noise, and pushing harder at the ballot box. We've shown a willingness to make a politician's stance on firearms a critical factor in how we vote, and we gun owners have PLENTY of potential power at the vote box. It's safe to say that the gun owners of America have more than enough power to make or break virtually ANY candidate's election bid, especially if he has anything resembling a challenging contest already. We're active, we're writing and calling our congressmen, and we need to do even more of that. Make sure they know that we're watching them, and if they screw us, they'll be unemployed when their current term is up. Believe it. The ban will go away and won't be replaced. Not this time. Maybe some years from now, if we fall asleep, we may lose some of our rights to power mad socialist bastards again, but not here and now this time. Mods, can we get this tacked, maybe? And turned into something resembling an "AW ban sunset FAQ", and lock any further new topics on this subject? This is getting freaking REPETITIVE. CJ

Oh, crap. No THIS repetitive question again?

I hear you brother, and I feel the exact same way about all the doom & gloom prognostications that some people want to pass off as hard facts. Many spout off about the inevitability of a "new & improved" AW ban like they have no say or recourse in the matter. They act as if a tremendous outcry by America's gun owners will go unnoticed in Washington. The kicker is, many of these same people are not members of the NRA, GOA, etc..., nor do they spend copious amounts of personal time, money, & effort trying to influence the actions of our elected representatives. In short, I find that those who whine the loudest, help the least! BTW... if the shoe doesn’t fit, don't cram it on just for the sake of an argument.

That's cute. 1 in 5 cops killed in the line of duty were killed by assault weapons ... my ass, they were.

The truth has never stood in the way of those who are determined to accomplish their mission. Witness the socialization of China by a very small percentage of Chinese citizens. (Scarcely 10 percent were socialists but they had the populace believing they were the majority.) We can't stand by and let these lying cocksuckers disarm us. Fight their lies with the truth, and discredit them in every way possible. It has to be war. What are you doing about it, fighting or watching? CJ

The Brady Bill is permanent. It's the AW Ban portion of the Crime Bill that will sunset. So, waiting periods or instant checks are with us forever, in all likelihood.

I keep getting the impression that we should be asking you the same thing. - There is no such thing as a "Brady Ban", although banning "the Brady Bunch" sounds like a great idea to me. - The "Brady Bill" was the 1996 law that mandated a background check for all firearm purchases. This is why when you go to a gun shop and by a new AR15 the dealer has to either call an 800 number or get on a computer to initiate the check and you can't take the weapon home until the check comes back okay. - "Semi Automatic Assault Weapons" and "large capacity ammunition feeding devices" were banned by the Crime Bill of 1994. The only way the Dems in congress could get it to pass was by including a sunset clause saying that this ban would expire 10 years from the date of enactment unless extended by another law. The 10 years are up in Sept of 2004.

Yes he is. The Brady *LAW* is separate from the Crime Bill of 1994 and has no sunset provision.

Yes, it is law now, isn't it? My bad!

thats awesome (or not) that they actually have the RRA site on there! And an AK for $169??? where?? I wan't one now!! also, what do the explosives that the Columbine kids set off have to do with "assult weapons"??(it shows footage of one of the explosives going off) also, while watching Bowling for Columbine, I saw that man whose son was killed at Columbine do his speech about how a tec-9 is a weapon that isn't used to kill deer... i mean, i do feel bad for this man's loss, but the 2nd isn't about duck hunting..(i know, i'm preaching to the choir here) on a related note: have you seen Feinstens website? that really pisses me off! she, and everyone else, knows that the AWB didn't do shit! but she still supports it...[V] also, she talks about high-capacity clips. high capacity clips??? go ahead and ban thoes, all my clips hold ten already! she probably thinks that ordinary soccer moms would think that a high-capacity magazine is something that a gun lover reads on the john. seriously tho, why would anybody want to get on the train to ban assault weapons??? its a "solution" for a problem that dosen't exist! edited: oh look! 100th post! better celebrate! [sex] no wait... [beer] there it is.

well, yes.. it was on payperview and it seemed very anti-, so i had to be able to defend myself to my friends who thought that the previews were funny as hell/made "good points"..(no my friends aren't anti-gunners, they just don't take any sides when it comes to political issues; wait what were thoes people called again??) And in the end it wasn't as bad as i thought it'd be.. more nonsense stuff than anti-gun stuff.. and that little cartoon amused me.. (with its lies. and its assumption that the KKK and the NRA are in someway related [ROFL])

AW ban will sunset, that's a fact, but as to further legislation can only be speculation at this point. I hope nothing replaces it, or law is enacted to extend it, but the world is full of surprises - I never thought someone like Arnold would become mayor of Kalifornia, especially since he isn't a staunch Democrat. Stranger things have happened. One can only speculate and there is still a lot of time left between now and then - myself, I wouldn't take any bets either way. Those of you who pray, best start praying for us all now my brothers, we may need it, and it couldn't hurt.
