I've heard that the current Colts are the best AR-15s right now, but I'm concerned about the non-standard parts in them. It looks like I would have trouble replacing parts in them, if the need arose.

Is this true? Thanks

No. There are loads of large pin Colts in existence. There are several aftermarket triggers in addition to the factory items. Even Bushmaster sells replacement large pin fire control parts.

Would it be possible to modify the reciever as to fit standard fire control pins in? Would fitting a standard front lock pin in be possible?

All the later Colts I have seen have a fact push pin like all the other makes. They even upgraded the crappy trap door to the original type. GG

That's good, but did some of their pre ban models have standard fire control parts?

Yes, My 1979 COLT SP-1 AR15 has standard hammer/trigger pins. It does have the large .312 front take-down pin though. If you want a new Colt, I wouldn't worry about the non-standard pin sizes, you'll have no trouble finding them. You'll probably never need to replace them anyway.
