Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Ar 15 differences

I am interested in Colt preban carbines.  I have a preban, green label, serial number SP 284XXX.  I see that there are two other preban carbine types.  One is an M4 and I think I understand the diffs with my carbine.  I do not understand the diffs with what is called the Gov't Carbine (sem to have GC at beginning of serial numbers).  any ideas?? thanks
