Hey all if you picked up a Blackhawk vest from Galls, and you have it all loaded out already. Why not post some pics. Also list what it is loaded out with.

Again a Big thanks to MR. Buck_Naked you are da' man.

Also if someone could host my pic I'll have it ready 8/20/03.

Hope to see all those vest put to good use.

I've heard a lot of operators use them for compasses, emergency strobes, trauma kits, snacks, you name it really.

Can't post a pick till mine comes UPS, I just ordered my $49.00 Dollar OD Green Omega this morning. Galls says they are still in stock. What can I say, This was way to good a deal to pass up. I have not ordered anything from Galls for about three years, so I had fallen off their catalog mailing list, but I expect, that this will put me back to getting their mailings about five times a year. I stuck my cheepo Tac Force vest on Ebay today for pretty close to the price I just paid for the new Blackhawk. Once it sells, I'll pretty much have recouped what I just paid for the better vest. I had been waiting for a vest deal like this for quite a while.

What are some ideas of what I could attach to the back sections?

Jadams...Try Lightfighter.com for Ideas on what to mount on back of your vest. I personaly recomend, not putting to much back there, You might want to actualy sit down or drive while wearing your vest someday, without displacing a couple of spinal disks. still, its nice to have the ability to hook up Gas Mask pouches, Packs, hydration systems, rear mounted large radio or scanner pouches, Empty mag dump bags and so forth back there if you need them.

Unless you REALLY need something there, keep it empty. I bought this day pack attatchment. It was nice, but I really didn't find any need for it. After doing some "running and Gunning in the pit, I found myself carrying maybe a pound of sand.

It's technically a Body Armor, Fragmentation Protective Vest. But it will stop a handgun up to .45 caliber only because I didn't have a .50 cal handgun to test. I haven't tried a rifle but I doubt it will pass. Therefore it is a handgun bulletproof vest.

Here's mine. I had to tighten up the straps all the way to get it to fit me tight. I lost 30 lbs last year. I have some Glock 19 mags in the vest. The Glock 19 also fits great.

Ditto, plus it has a life time warrenty on there products. Sounds like the typical 9mm/.45 or AK/AR debate. Or maybe someone is just jelous that they paid full price. :) Any way what is everyone loading this vest out with anyway I'd like some more ideas for the non-MAG pockets. So far my list inclues: Kabar, P6, scarf, web belt and 8 mag carrier on the belt, a mirrored compass, one small chem light. My needs are a drop leg holster for a P226, a hydration system of some kind, Spare AR bolt, a small med kit, a local topo map. well thats all I have for now.

I think its the "Made in Vietnam" thing.

The Eagle vs Blackhawk argument is like the Ford vs Chevy debate. You know how it is, the one you bought is always the best. [;)]
Link Posted: 8/17/2003 6:08:00 PM EDT
Part of it's a made in VN thing. Part of it's a Ford -v- Chevy thing. Don't fill the pockets just 'cause they're there. You don't want a lot of unnecessary weight. Carry the items you need immediately and put the rest in the BOB.
Link Posted: 8/17/2003 6:27:08 PM EDT
I bet some of the guys who don't like the made in Vietnam thing post here calling BHI garbage then go jump in their Kia or Toyota and drive to work in the morning.
Link Posted: 8/17/2003 6:32:48 PM EDT
Welcome to the global economy. If its well made, and you can afford it, get it.
Link Posted: 8/17/2003 6:52:23 PM EDT
Not just a Ford vs Chevy thing it amounts to more than that.Much more!! Mainly quality issues like stitches popping apart and edges unraveling. I have a Eagle TacV that has seen 15 years of hard use and no raveling or stitches coming loose. Also has to do with the company's business practices since almost all of their designs are copies stitch for stitch of their competitors offerings. But they are not the only ones so does it really matter??? To some it does.
Link Posted: 8/17/2003 7:17:53 PM EDT
Well I understand the Vietnam issue, and currently supporting a company that does business with VN, and i know its no excuse; but mine was made in Korea.

So where does this leave Bushmaster, Armalite, RRA, CAVarms, et al.? Competition is a good thing. What would Eagle cost if it wasn't for Blackhawk? What will Sure-fire cost when someone figures out how to compete?

Ok. I gotta say something here. This thread started out as a bunch guys celebrating getting a really great deal an item that many of them wanted very badly. Then out of the wood work comes a couple of snotty nosed little "my gear is better than your gear" freak jobs, whose sole motivation seems to be, boosting their own armchair high speed, low drag, Walter Mitty ego's. So let me ask you Topgun, about this iron super vest of yours, with fifteen years of hard use, without so much as a thread scuffed? Are you some sort of special forces warrior Topgun, are you an operator? Because you sure don't sound like it. Now it has been my expiriance that all tactical gear is pretty much thread and nylon. Thread and nylon wears and frays under hard field conditions, no matter who makes it. Your description of a vest that has not so much as a thread out of place after fifteen years seems to be good evidence that you would not know HARD USE if it bit you. No more likely your supposedly indestructible Eagle vest has been a closet queen for the great majority of it's fifteen years, this being the only way that I can think of, that any piece of nylon gear could survive that length of time without so much as a scuffed thread. You know, I see lots of pics of real operators in Afghanistan wearing Blackhawk gear, I also see many wearing Eagle Gear. All of it looks well worn as any nylon gear would after just a couple of months of REAL HARD USE, so I guess the guys that really are operators know that no vest really survives more than a few months in the field, MUCH LESS 15 YEARS!!! heck with this amazing Eagle vest of yours that can last 15 years of HARD USE, you probably don't need body armor, to hear you tell it, that Eagle is stitched so tight that .50 BMG's could not penatrate it. I'm sure that If a soldier could have bought an Eagle vest just before the American Invasion of North Africa in WWII, that this vest would have lasted him through Sicily, Casino, Normandy, The Battle of the Bulge, Hang the vest up. Pull it back out for Korea, Then get it back out for Vietnam, say from Tet to 73, I mean that would be just about 15 years of hard use. As you can tell, I don't really think to much of this 15 years of hard use B.S.

Guys, also remember that much of BHI's line is copied. The OMEGA is a copy of the Eagle TAC-V1. All of their STRIKE MOLLE gear are copies of the Eagle MOLLE gear, which is not for sale to the public. The ISAAK is a copy of the LBT Riverine Rifle Vest. Much of the animosity comes from BHI's unoriginal designs.

Fear, exactly what I think. While quality *may* be the same (I have seen a lot more popped seems in BHI stuff than Eagle, but that may just be me), I don't really think it's that big of an issue regarding BHI vs. Eagle. When much of the items are copies of another company's design, then I can start to decide who's I'd like to buy. Even the owner of BHI has admitted that if a design is good it needs to be replicated. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? The Vietnam vs US made issue is just another little thing that can sway you.

Hiram, I have no pity for Eagle, as they have ripped off designs from other companies (namely Paraclete with the RAV, which has also been copied as the FSBE). I am simply saying that maybe if someone made the original design and makes it to a better standard in your home country, you'd be more willing to support them.

Never claimed to be an Operator just said that my vest has been used hard since I bought it 15 years ago. It has scuffs and loose threads and even a few holes but it has not fallen apart. The BHI vests I have used have popped stitches and had pouches fall apart after moderate use while training on the range and in the field. Simply the facts

This thread is nuts! I will say that the Eagle vs. Blackhawk debate is definitely NOT Ford Vs. Chevy - It is more like BMW vs Yugo. Eagle is hands down better quality than Blackhawk. Sure, you can get away with blackhawk stuff for most uses, but when buying gear that you may stake your life on, why? I take the opinions of people who live in their gear seriously, and purchase accordingly. Of course, I also don't buy gear for no reason. So go ahead, shop for Blackhawk till you drop. Then you can pose in your Mall Ninja gettups and act all smug that some of us wasted our money on Eagle. You Walter Mitty types are, afterall, the market BHI has decided to focus on.

well, LOL, I can tell you that NONE of my LBV's have stayed pretty and stitched up. That includes gear from Eagle AND Blackhawk. Then again, I use mine "for real" and i think its safe to say that i put them through "hard use". However, I'm still pissed that i missed out on the X-draw!!! I see people say they're still in stock from Galls? Im gonna try and call this morning asap!!! For the money, I'll run the Blackhawk for my personal off duty use here and there. I'd probably even run it in the field as far as quality being the issue. But it just doesn't particularly float my boat for what i really need out there. Can't have my pistol up on me like that...gotta have the drop leg set-up. LT out
