Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - A-1 vs A-2 front sight / gas block

What are the differences? Are all standard A-2 front gas blocks designed for the same diameter barrel?  
What diameter barrel does an A-1 gas block fit?  
Is the distance from the center of the barrel to the top of the sight the same for each?
Is the A-1 post different from an A-2?

Also, would an A-1 barrel be as accurate as an A-2 if both were free floating?

I can answer these two.
Yes, they are.
Yes, the A1 post is round with 5 adjustment notches, and the A2 is square with 4 adjustment notces.
