Was at a gunshow today and had the chance to check out all of the major brands of ar15's. The colt's were awful, mismatch of upper and lower color, but worse than that you could see sanding and file marks all over the upper, didn't look good at all, overall quality, fair.

Bushmaster was good, but Rock River and Armalite seemed the best

However, current production Colt Commandos look quite sweet [:D]

I have several Colts that I bought a couple of years ago, the parkerizing is dark grey and even between upper and lower, fit and finish is perfect, I'm sure glad I got them when I did.

Purhased my Colt M4 approximately 3 weeks ago.  The color of the upper receiver and lower match perfectly.  No noticable tool or file marks.  No slack between upper and lower and no wedge behind takedown pin.  Overall I am very pleased with the quality of the firearm.

I have to agree with Stephen1.
I picked up a 6400 a week ago. Everything matches, no marks, looks good!

Perhaps Colt lowers with junk uppers...?

No, I see it all the time with both Bushmasters and Colts. Uppers and lowers do not always match. Colt M4's seem to match pretty well, but their 20" guns tend to be mismatched. Bushmaster is hit or miss. All the Armalite's do seem pretty consistant. Dont get to see a whole lot of RRA. The ones I have seen are good.

probably what it is.......when you see mismatch shade between a upper and lower, it's a sure sign some green teeth, hilljack "dealer" pieced together a AR using a COLT as a lower,  so he can get more money for it. from the sound of how the uppers looked....wouldn't surprise me if they were hesse upper on those.

The boxes were colt, stacked up six high, but they were 20" H-Bar model 6700 and the 24" accurized model 6724 that I was looking.

They were asking $860 for the 6700's and $1050 for the 6724's

Prices make me even more suspicious. Sure don't see 'em that low around my area, anyway.

Boxes mean little. Guy may have parted the rifles out selling the uppers at a premium and then junk uppers on the lowers.
I haven't seen many poorly matched Colt rifles myself but I buy most stuff over the internet anymore.

Of course, maybe Colt is dumping all of their junk on the civvie market--ie leftovers from cranked up wartime production. If so they are going to lose even more business than they have already.
You'd think their Board of Directors would have put a stop to their BS a long time ago.

Me like 'em Colt!.....mismatched upper/lower?  Isn't that another evil feature?
