No offense guys, but what's so great about outdated hardware?

Would you say that about a 1966 corvette?
What's so "outdated"?
Once they changed the buffer, chrome lined the chamber/bore, and taught the troops to clean it, the rifle ran very reliably.
Gene Stoner, the designer, thought the forward assist was a bad idea.
If the round doesn't chamber, why force it ?
He thought that was asking for more trouble.
Many agree.
The old farts running US army wanted a forward assist because, they were used to pushing forward on the op-rod handle of the be-loved Garand.
The USAF didn't want it and the Marines, didn't care either way.
Think about this:
The legendary FAL didn't have a forward assist either !
(Israel not-withstanding)
The sights are "set and forget" 0-300 yards.
nothing to get inadvertently mis-adjusted by accident. (I do like the ghost ring on the A2, I put one on My SP-1.)
Yeah, the newer handguards are stronger, but there is something cool about the old triangle ones.
Maybe it's because of my age, I was issued the M16A1, but I love these old rifles.
Lightweight, reliable, simple.
