but the search won't go back that far...

What's Pachino using in "HEAT"?

Is that an Armalite?

It was a French Chautchaut machine gun in 458 Rigby!!!!  The same gun that Sally Fields used in Live or Let Die!!!!

You guys forgot to mention that the FNC had an A2 flash suppressor installed instead of the normal one.  I think that is what throws people off.

it was probablly just an a2 look alike blank adapter like on the 16's..

Alright, I don't wanna necessarily continue this thread, but I do have a question about this gun.

Why do you suppose that the producers/consultants/whoever would choose to use such a relatively rare gun for the movie?

Is the FN FNC a general issue in LA?

DAMN!  Now I gotta get something gruesome back up there.

For all who are interested, the chick is Sheri Moon of House of 1000 Corpses fame.

An S&H sear conversion of an FNC can be had for $5-6k. Even less if you want a shooter.

Because it's a MOVIE, and they wanted it to be exciting.  Almost none of the weapons shown being carried by LAPD were authorized.  These include:

- FNC Para
- 20" AR15
- Mossberg 590
- Pachino's .45

The last three were only authorized for SWAT, and the FNC wouldn't be allowed at all.

LAPD authorized only 9mm semi-autos and 5-shot pump guns with buckshot for virtually all departments.

Of course, it's also unlikely that the bad guys would have had 11.5" full-auto ARs, Galils, FALs, or G3s, but the latter two are certainly more likely than the former.

Doesn't LAPD alow detectives to carry certain other sidearms if they qualify with them? I have seen plainclothes cops on the documentary style police shows on A&E and the Discovery Channel carrying S&Ws, 1911s, and other pistols. Pacino's character was a Lt. with the robbery/homocide division. If anyone in the dept. is allowed to carry guns other than the 92F, I would think an officer in his position would be able to.

Thanks Troy. I love my 92F, but I sure would hate to lug it around on my belt every day as a detective.
