Hey, I love the sport of target shooting. After researching the best pistol and rifle to buy, I found myself buying every gun identification book I could find. I later found that watching a good action movie gave me a chance to identify pistols and rifles. There are some really lame rubber gun movies that have been made but are there any really gun specific motion pictures? Here is your chance to tell the forum what you think is a well done flick with great weapons research in it.

My favorites:

Borne Identity
Black Hawk Down
James Bond: Golden Eye

What is your suggestion?

Not many good movies with guns. How about Saving Private Ryan. Now for video games. There is one video game that will top em all. Metal Gear Solid. Solid Snake was outfitted like a freakin' spec-ops guy. A small sample of all guns used in game: HK USP 9mm HK MP5 9mm HK PSG1 Beretta 92 (M9) AKS-74u M4 Colt Reads kinda like my christmas list...

Number 1 would be "Way of the Gun", followed by "Blackhawk Down". Something different would be "The Mummy" (newer version) I just loved the cool older weapons from the 1920's. A honorable mention for "Siege of Firebase Gloria", for all the M-14's, and the M-79 bloop gun. S/F Flyingrhino

Best "gun" movie? Blackhawk down! Best "gun" scene? HEAT! When Val does a tactical reload correctly! and actually aims instead of sprays and he also uses good cover during the reload.UNDERDOG

I liked Way of the Gun too. Lots of realistic tactics, but some crappy ones too. Like in the end, the guy has a long gun as his primary weapon, but only one or two mags? Then when he is out... he must have what, like 50 mags for his 1911? I really liked all the wonded and one handed tactics, and the cover scenes in the begining.

I like the shoot out in Heat & Matrix.... Heat is a little more realistic but both are good ones.... Prosise

HEAT! By far! That shoot out in the street is awesome! Especially in 5.1 surround. When people want to hear what my home theater does I play that scene everytime. Bad Ass!

The Matrix, specifically the Lobby scene.

If you want a movie about a gun, it has to be "Winchester '73".
Link Posted: 6/2/2003 4:30:56 AM EDT
Without a doubt, HEAT. The bank robbery shootout has to be the best gun action sequence ever filmed. No sprinkling of liberal Hollywood bias either. Ronin is also pretty good, but the scene where they snatch the case wasn't too realistic for me. Deniro uses an HK grenade launcher, a SIG 551, a LAWS and a Minimi all in one scene. Cool, but not very real.

Gotta go with Heat- no matter how many times I watch that movie, The Scene (do I have to mention which one???) just amazes me. Incredible sound of the reports reverberating off the buildings (this is reason alone to get a surround sound system!) and the fact the Val Kilmer and DiNero ADVANCE on the police gets me every time! Damn, I might just have to watch that again when I get home tonight!

Boondock saints, The Matrix, Resident Evil had some neat guns in it aswell The Bourne Identity was kind of funny the way the lead guy kept getting all these guns and then throwing them away!! arg!! Did anyone notice that?

Heat Black Hawk Down The Matrix Ronin

Another vote for the Matrix and Black Hawk Down. The part in The Matrix where they walk into the building to rescue Morpheous and they set off the metal detector. Neo then opens his black trench coat and he is loaded down with guns. That scene is the sh!t.

C'mon, no John Woo? Howsabout The Killer and the piece of resistance, Hardboiled?!?!?! Realism? NOT! Fun? DEFINATELY!

Neil, Didn't you know it was a the 94 ban, he could only obtain two 25 rounds pre-ban magazines. [;D] I vote for Saving Private Ryan, Heat, Blackhawk Down, T2

Of course: Blackhawk Down Band of Brothers Saving Private Ryan One movie, not mentioned (Gunzilla beat me to it), that I believe is one of, if not the best, Vietnam movie is - "84 Charlie Mopic" Views like a reality show of a LRRP... And was the first war movie that used the same "style" of filming that the three films mentioned above used... check it out... [sniper2]

sorry, Air Force Radio/Communications... But 84c Mopic was so "unhollywood", I felt it was probably the most "real" film of just what it was like in Nam... I'm Vietnam Era, but got sent to Germany in '74... [sniper2]

Yeah, all those movies are okay i guess, but I heard no mention of the movie "The Terminator". Perhaps the best use of weaponry ever. Not to mention the dude toting them. A small sampling of weapons used 1. Franchi SPAS 12 2. AMT hardball (longslide) 3. SAA of some manufacture 4. 870 rem or Win model 12 (sawed off buttstock) 5. Armalite AR18 6. Uzi 7. HK 91A3 Need i say more?

I vote for "The Mummy" (great C&Rs in there) and I also liked Bruce Willis's "Last Man Standing" (even with the oddest shoulder holster draw I've ever seen.)
