I'm thinking about getting an upper in 7.62x39 but I'm not sure about the reliablity/durablity.
With the AR gas system does the bolt/carrier get more dirtier than normal?
How many rounds can it go before it needs cleaning or stops functioning?

Your biggest problem with reliability won't be the gas system. It will be the magazines. Good 7.62 AR magazines are tough to find.

Not to worry.... Check this out. www.ar47.com You can use your 7.62 upper with their lower which uses AK mags!!! Or just buy a complete rifle, if you're interested, email me and I'll fill you in on the details.

If your gonna get a 7.62x39 rifle, I suggest you make it an AK.

I would like very much to hear from someone that has a rifle built on the AR47 lower. I think it is a great concept. I have a couple of nice AKs but would love to be able to swap out gear gun to gun and the Aks don't lend themselves to that

I've shot many cases of wolf through my x39 upper. No problems with the gas system, ever. We even swaped in a full auto bolt carrier and shot the hell out of it on a 16 lower. Personally, I can't see buying a dedicated lower that can't be used for anything else. I like being able to swap uppers. But then again, I have a good supply of the 30 rnd frankenmags.

Agreed. With a fairly decent AK around $260 - $ 300 why not ?

With the AR47 receiver, you can still use the 5.56 upper. The upper and bolt carrier would have to be modified to accept the AK mags however. The receiver will accept both AK mags and Galil mags. If I am not mistaken, SAR-2 mags are the AK type mags that hold 5.56 rounds. I think the greatest thing about the AR47 receiver is that you can use AK mags, they are cheap! Plus if your heart desires, you can use AK drums too, for those of us that have DIAS or RRs, they fit too without mods...
