I should know better than to ask a question like this considering the source, but here goes. A discussion the other day at a gun shop run by a retired cop. He says he can get me a .50 beowolf upper for $650 or so, and that the Special Forces are using them. My eyebrows went thru the ceiling. I have a few connections here and there, but I never heard any kind of BS like this. I know they use .50 BMG rifles, but has anybody out there heard of this..?

I was once told by a gunshop dealer that the SEALS were using HESSE ar15's. Does that anwser your question? P.S. Customs are using something related to the .50 b, except its .499

No sales of any of these systems to SF as of yet. Alexander Arms who make the Beowulf are not a government contractor so if there are any in SF usage, they are privately acquired. AA like to imply that they supply covert operations but it's not the case. The only type classified round is the .499LWR.

General Tommy Franks head of SOCOM - his body gaurds carry the .50 Beowolf AR - have the empty brass from the range at MacDill AFB to prove it.

GI Brat - That picture is just asking for a different caption ... "I said, "Let's do take out and call Domino's", not "Let's take out the guy from Domino's" or "Yeah, hello, Domino's? We're watching you guys from over here, and if Bob sees you putting those anchovise on there, he has orders to pop a cap in your @ss" Sorry, couldn't resist ....

CENTCOM tested the Beowulf.....'nuff said. That's why the brass is on the range.

The only .50 cals my battalion uses is M2HB and M82 Barretts. As far as finding .50Bewolf brass on a military range, that would depend on which range it was found on. Just about all military bases have a range for privately owned weapons. The brass could have been someones personal and not Uncle Sams. De Oppresso Liber

Every time I tell a friend (Marine or not) that I have a .50 cal upper that fits on my AR-15 lower, they automatically assume I'm talking .50 BMG. Nope, there's a couple of flavor of .50 cal rounds that single stack in AR mags and the upper fits on an AR lower. I got my Leitner-Wise, LWR .499, a few weeks ago and really like it. I put it on an Eagle Arms lower I built with a skeletonized stock. I need to get a picture of it posted. Semper fi, Gerry

Would RIS, RAS or SIR fit on such an upper?
Link Posted: 5/27/2003 5:56:36 AM EDT
Yes, no problem, have used the LW.499 with one fitted.
Link Posted: 5/27/2003 6:14:39 AM EDT
Which one?

RIS and RAS, not the SIR though.
