My dealer has the Bushmaster on sale for $819, is this a good price? I really want the M4, but nowhere close has this and the A3 was looking tempting.

Thats not a bad price.

I just paid $769 for my Bushmaster A3 from Aim Surplus.

I paid $12 shipping and $15 transfer fee, which came out to $796 total.

I'm thinking retail is around $1100 for the A3, so that price doesn't sound too far off.  Tough decision (A3 vs M4), but Bushmaster is well worth it, regardless of which one you go with.

I live in central VA and every dealer around that I've checked with is selling bushmasters for a 1000.00 dollars and up.

Whats the deal

Nope, the local yokel dealers in this area have always had high prices.   Their business model is to  score big off of a few ignorant customers.

Really? I figured the VA gun dealers would put a sniper tax on all Bushys.

I paid $799 for the same rifle.  $815 isn't a bad price, not a great price.  You are paying the dealer about $70 profit.  I believe in supporting the local guy and don't mind paying little more.

What I would do is go to gunbrokers.com, find an A3.  Go in and tell the guy that you are thinking about buying an AR and that you found one on gunbroker.  If he can come close to the price you will buy from him.
