If you are going to be mounting a large scope, are you better off with a flat top or one of the uppers with the EOP?  Will the EOP allow the use of low rings?

The flattop would probably be better.  With any scope 3x and above, you won't see the front sight.  At the most it will be a small blur on the lower part of your sight picture.  This way you can mount the scope as low as possible and still get a cheeckweld on a bare stock.

My take on the EOP is that it would let you use lower (and thus cheaper?) rings.  If you're building something like a varmint rig, where you'll only mount a conventional scope, it might be a good option.  

If you're building something more multi-purpose, where you might want to mount irons or an Aimpoint it'll limit your options.
