I have heard that extractor breakage was a common problem with AR's, but have never seen it happen until yesterday when mine bit the dust. Since I have to replace it now anyway I thought I would ask for opinions on what brand to replace it with, or if brand name even matters. Also, is there a cause for this breakage other than wear & tear? TIA

I guess I have just lucked out, since I have never had one break.

Where did the extractor break, at the lip or at the pivot point?

As for a new one, either DPMS, Bushmaster, or JT.

Hope this helps.

Don't get to picky where you get your replacement one from, they mostly come from the same place.  Drop me an email I have one I will sell you for $10.

As I understand it, there's milled GI and then there's cast.  You definitely want a milled GI extractor.  Fulton Armory has them (www.fultonarmory.com).
