I'm of the opinion that a mil-spec lower receiver is the best way to go.

But for some reason, I see Colt lowers without the modern reinforcments go for top dollar.

Hell, even the large hole uppers are about the same price (even though they have to be drilled for small push pins?).

I've had a couple of chances to buy preban Colt lowers for a good price (at least as far as the market goes). But have held off because they aren't mil-spec.

Am I crazy to pass up good deals simply because they aren't mil-spec?

Or (and this is a real stupid question) are all those reinforcements really not that necessary?

Seems like some people think that SP1's are all that were ever needed when it comes to the AR15.

So what do you guys think?

I've got an SP1 and i love it. It's light. reliable. and It's Colt. I never have had any bad comments for Colt, except the price. As for drilling, DON'T!!!! you don't need to drill anytihng. THey have adapter pins and screws. I have a .45 upper for my SP1. the upper is small hole, and the lower is large. I use an adapter pin and have no problems whatsoever.
