Hey everyone,
If you don't get to our site (www.rockriverarms.com) very often, you missed the introduction of our first "kit" rifle. It's a CAR A4 upper half with R4 barrel that's fully assembled, head spaced, and test-fired, along with our NM lower parts kit and 6-position tactical CAR Stock...everything you need to build a rifle except for the stripped lower receiver (which you can get from your local RRA dealer). Part number AR4001, retailing at $620.00 Steve/RRA |
I like the kit idea will differnt model be coming out, and the local distribtors be stocking them?
We may do more kits, depending on how well this one sells.
This is a retail sales only, direct to the customer deal at this time, so I doubt your dealer would care to stock it. All you need tofinish it is a stripped lower receiver. Add the parts kit and stock to the lower, attach the upper, and you're ready to go. Steve/RRA Edited: Dealer pricing exists now as well..so your local dealer can stock it as well. Steve/RRA |

Chrome lined barrel or mid length A4 and I'm sold. Do IL residents have to pay sales tax?

Right now it is this kit, as is.
IL residents would have to pay sales tax as it is an in-state sale. Yes, there is an LEO discount. Steve/RRA |

Do you have chrome lined kits with A2 sights (and preferably one piece upper/carry handle)? thanks, dan edit: is it the midlength gas tube setup on the 16in or the carbine (shorter) gas tube setup on the 16in? |

Current kits are CAR length with RRA R4 bbl profile.

They updated the web sight last night with the chrome lined kit, thanks. I ordered two.

Awesome, once word gets out I think this will be very popular. Myself I would love to see the same thing offered in a midlength upper with chrome lined barrel. And I know i'm not the only one!
Thanks RRA |
About how long will it take to get the kits (I ordered two)? I got the standard email letter about the time lines, but it wasn't clear on the kit time.
Thanks Patrick B. |
Patrick,
It depends on which kit, and barrel availability at any given time. We just started doing the kits and are working through the different ways (in-house procedures) that we'll be using to get them built and out to customers...so to put it differently, probably 3-4 weeks at the longest. Steve/RRA |
Ditto that! I'll be waiting in line for a midlength w. chrome lined barrel also! |
Well, I don't need one as I just ordered an RRA mid-length chrome lined upper last month. I had a tough time choosing between the Stag M4 upper and the RRA. The mid-length is what tipped the scales in favor of the Rock River. So, I would agree that a mid-length kit would be verry popular.

How hard would this be to assemble myself? Very interested.

Bad350,
The AR is real easy to work on. My only advise is to get a good set of drifts (square punches), a good teflon punch about 3/8" in diameter, a small hammer. There are a lot of instructions on the forum. Once you get into it, you will see how easy. I would rather work on them than shoot them!!! |

Hi, Im new to ar's and will it be possible for a inexperience person to build this kit?
The most complicated parts (barrel torgue, head spacing, etc..) are taken care of for you since the upper half is fully assembled, head spaced, and test fired, but the lower half still isn't the easiest thing to do without the proper tools and some experience. I used to try to put them together at my dining room table, with out benefit of a vise or the proper tools..and almost inevitably had to make a call the next morning to order whichever springs and/or detents had gone flying during that very frustrating process, and had to dig out the flat black Aluma-Black pen to touch up where I had made punch impact marks.
I've found that the best way for soemone to get into assembling their own lowers is by watching/helping someone do it several times, asking questions and taking a few notes at the same time. You'll learn tricks that you wouldn't come up with on yur own, figure out which tools are essential to the build, etc...I still put hammer/trigger pins in wrong on occasion. :) Steve/RRA |
The upper is assembled, you have to put the lower together, it's easier than putting a model car together, though it takes some tools and common sense.
How to: ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782 edit-put the lower inside a clear plastic bag, like a garbage bag, when putting in the springs/detents, that way when they fly off they will be caught by the bag. |
I've zeroed in on this kit but have two questions.
1) I've read the notes on assembly of the lower on this forum. Does this kit come with good instructions to complement those on line? 2) How long does it take to ship once ordered? |
I've gone ahead and bought one. I'll feed back how well it goes.

cabrit, tried to e-mail and IM you but you don't have those features enabled.
There are some pretty good detailed instructions on assembling the lowers over in the "built it yourself" forum. I just assembled my first receiver on Wednesday and the 2nd and 3rd receivers on Thursday night. Once you do one, the rest are super easy. I got very good at it. If you need any help just shoot me an e-mail. Worst case scenario I could easily talk you through it over the phone....it's that easy. |

1badf350, thanks for the offer of help. Always good to have backup. I've updated my profile so you can e-mail. I'll certainly shout if I hit problems.

Hello Rock River
Have had my chrome lined kit on order through a dealer since the middle of January or so. Any idea how long the wait is? I know it will be directly shipped to me. Thanks |
Chrome-lined barrels just came in. We'll be filling rifle, upper, and kit orders from oldest to newest.

Steve,
I called RRA Customer Service yesterday to find out status on my order I purchased thru a dealer here and the lady I spoke with said 30-60 days before orders are filled? What's the inside scoop? |
New orders are running 30-60 days from date of order, particularly if chrome-lined.
We've been shipping all along...it's just a matter of date of order. Steve/RRA |

It was worth the wait (IMO). |
I'm planning to buy this sometime this week. The only thing is, am I correct in assuming this is California legal (as it is sold without the lower receiver)? I was also wondering how likely it would be that it'd take longer than 4-6 weeks to arrive, since I will have a change in address in 11 weeks.
I just past the six week waiting point. I'm not mad- just wish the RRA Website had set my expectation correctly initially.
It is CA legal - no FFL. You are not buying a gun. The lower is the gun. One problem would be if RRA included a 30 round mag. Make sure you follow up with a fax/letter stating you are ordering with a 10 round mag. It is a bit tin foil hatish, but shouldl cover you if RRA slip up. If you have a stripped lower make sure you get a fixed mag kit. www.tenpercentfirearms.com is a gent with great service on these items. calguns.net is a great source of info. |

My kit arrived today. The wait was six weeks and change.
RRA make a beutiful rifle! I'm very impressed with the quality. Cannot wait to shoot it. |

What is a LEO discount? |

I have a question on the possibilities of different kits. Has RRA looked into doing different ones if the parts are readily available. What I mean is what are the possibilities of taking a complete upper you already offer, and making it a kit. It would be almost a neat option, kind of like supersizing at fast food places. Ok so thats a bad example. You could add a fixed A2 stock kit option to your upper for an extra (insert price here), or adjustable stock option for an extra (insert price here).
I just bring it up because I love the parts kit idea, but I have an M4/R4 profile rifle already and would like to build a 16" middy with adjustable stock. So yeah I bring it up for selfish reasons. |
I'm out of my mind. Please leave a message.
It's already available to a certain extent...order the upper, stock, and lower parts kit you want, and short of a magazine, there's your kit.
We have looked at other kits, and may offer them in the future. Steve/RRA |
I ordered my CAR A4 kit with Chrome lined last month and got it this month. I believe it was a total of 3 weeks wait. Not bad at all.
I'm very happy with the quality of the rifle, although I have yet to actually shoot it. One question. I have a RRA lower receiver that I bought separately from one of your local dealers. The upper and lower receivers seem to fit quite tightly. When the rear takedown pin is pushed and I'm trying to swing the barrel down and open the top, I really have to put some muscle into it. Will this break in over time? |
Yep...very tight to start, will wear together a small bit with use. You'll maintan a nice tight fit, but be able to open and close a bit easier with time.
Steve/RRA |
Thanks Steve!
Ordered mine two weeks ago and the wait is killing me! To make it worse, yesterday I received the RRA stand-alone rear sight I ordered...now I've got the sight, but no rifle! AGGHHH!!!
What is the likely-hood of a mid-length kit being available soon / next? What difference, if any, is there between the Mid-Length Upper and the Elite Car A4 Upper. The carry handle that come with the Elite Car A4 the only difference? |
