View Quote 1:8 is the proper twist if versatility is your goal. As shooters, we use weight as a way to make a guess about projectile length- and that actually counts more when determining optimal twist rate. The heavier bullets are longer, and therefore need faster twists to stabilize. The lighter bullets are shorter, but imparting too much rotational energy will "overstabilize" them and wreck accuracy. Way too much rotational energy will rip jackets too. You will also likely discover, over time, that you will be shooting much more supers than subs. The correct answers for 300 BLK are: 1:9 - leaning towards supers 1:8 - most versatile 1:7 - leaning towards subs 1:6 - subs ONLY, and long ones at that 1:5 - completely useless 1:8 has been proven to give the best performance over the widest variety of .300 since the Whisper days when everything was an experiment. Consider that the decision with 30-30 is 1:12 for mostly round nose (shorter) or 1:10 normal. An AKM is 1:9.5. With .308 rifles and the same weight/length question, ideal ranges from 1:12 to 1:10. These are all with similar weight/ length to .300 supers. The dumb twist guns out there are very niche, non versatile weapons made for shooting only long, heavy monos at fifteen feet max range... on the taxpayer dime. If you ever shoot supers through a dumb twist gun, they need to be long monos. |

I'm really excited to see if/what aftermarket stuff pops up for the jakl. A 2055 Li-AL or magnesium replacement buttcap and forend would drop a lot of weight

Other than a forward assist (at the cost of a reciprocating charging handle), is there any reason to get a BRN180 over the JAKL? When I finally get something other than an AR, its going to be a bullpup, BRN180/JAKL, or an ACR. If only for costs and looks, the JAKL is top of the heap currently.

I like the JAKL better aesthetically. The BRN180 handguard feels much smaller though, if that is important to you. The JAKL also has a left hand-charge, where as the BRN180 is right hand-charge. Jakl rifles in stock but I'll pass at price and shitty jmac short stock.
The spear LT is 2x the price but I can't do jmac 8" stocks. |

Just ordered the FDE 13.7”. Seems like a great value given the cost of Scars and Sig Spears.

I can’t wait for 16” variant … 13.7” is cool and all but I don’t like pinned devices…

My next purchase has to be an H&R, but the PSA JAKL rifle in 556 in black, fixed triangle stock, 13.7 inch barrel, and a Sandman K sounds about perfect. Maybe with a Eotech 512

So top of the list is probably a Sandman-S (or K, or L). edit: the dead air nomad has been explicitly mentioned as NOT working, however. |

The problem is many of us are heavily invested in mounting systems other than KeyMo and to convert over would be prohibitively expensive.
PSA just needs to hurry up and release a 16" threaded upper. |

It's been flawless and the recoil is super soft. In short I love it so far! It folds up short enough to fit in my blue Eberlestock backpack for a nice low vis package. I was initially perplexed on how to mount a light but it worked out well with the addition of a Unity Tactical Hot Button and some mlok cable guides. There's not a lot of real-estate up front but it's usable and a highly recommend my light set up. I'm in the process of F1ing a black lower for it so I can return my burnt bronze lower to the M18ish SBR I have. |

Adding a Carmel, FDE ARX100, Legacy MCX (scored one with a red dot for $1,155 shipped yesterday), and may trade my XCR-M for an XCR-L too. I have to part with my AP5, Ruger .308 SFAR and some others to do it responsibly but it’ll be cool to have a few of the modem 5.56 guns. $2k is my mental cutoff so Scars, ACRs, APC223s and the Perun x16 might not make the collection. |
