Off to Quantico for a fun filled day of shooting in the rain. I'm bringing out a new member prospect, so I may not get as much trigger time as I may prefer, but it's a day shooting.
I got two more cases of the H130s yesterday from Classic Firearms so they are officially GTG! When I get a chance I'll length sort them as my LT260 really, really likes them at a BTO of 2.1830. My two cases of Prime are still "processing" so I should be well stocked for shooting before winter sets in and I can spend time reloading. I also need to do some math. Supposedly my chamber (bolt gun .260) was cut at X, knowing SAMMI spec is Y, I think I should be able to calculate freebore using math??? Make sense? Okay, off to pack up for Quantico. |

Anyone know the typical response time from Larue when you fill out a form for gunsmithing needs? I sent my form in for the .260 barrel that won't cycle more than a month ago and I haven't heard back.

View Quote I picked one of the Legend T-Series earlier this year when Bushnell had the 30% rebate going on. It was $300 after rebate. It is a nice scope for the money and seems rugged and for $300 I could not pass that up. However, I am not sure how the glass will be at 1,000 yards though - I will take it with me the next time. Found another 1,000 range about 1 1/2 hours north of me - need to check that one out. Camp Atterbury also has a 1,000 and 2,000 yard ranges and Central Indiana High Power Rifle holds their matches almost weekly (I am going to join next spring). Same range the NRA National High Power Championship were held at last year http://cihprs.wildapricot.org/ |

I changed the order from the MIL-C to the TreMor3 reticle. It also has the floating dot like the MIL-C. I was surprised on how much elevation the scope actually has. The specs say 27.3mils but when I checked it out, there is actually 36 mils available. With the Cadex 30 MOA rail, that should put me somewhere around 27.9 mils of available hold over. Looking at the AB app, the 339LM needs 27.1 mils at 2,000 yards so I may never need to use the grid. Cadex is scheduled to arrive sometime in December Added the .300 Norma Mag barrel so that they can headspace it a the factory. |

Prime Ammo order also came in.
The 338LM is slightly larger than the .260Rem cases Could not pass that up at the price - the ammo is approx. the same price as the empty Norma brass. Attached File Compared to the 308 and 260 (just to keep this within the context of the thread topic.) Attached File |

No Quantico R4 today, it was nasty rain and windy all day, part of that front moving in through Ohio. Probably for the best as it gave me time to organize the For Sale optics and get pictures I can post. I'll be selling the NF ATACR, two Vortex Gen I 5-20s and one of the Gen II HD 4.5-27 (I already sold one of those. Next will be the SWFAs and maybe the Leupold Mk6.
The spotting scope saga continues. I have a Vortex Viper HD 15-45xand while it's nice and I can see shots at 1,000, it can wear you out if you're behind it for a couple of hours spotting. But, the issue wasn't squinting through the eyepiece so much as being able to have a mil reticle to better call corrections. I need to look at the Athlon Cronus that is coming out with a Mil reticle and some of the lower priced options, maybe even seeing if they make a mil reticle for the Vortex. That way I can save $4K and do something else with it. ETA - I just read a dozen pages on the Hide about spotters and it's nothing but this is what I like because that's what I bought. I'm heading over to a bird watchers forum, they will probably be vicious in their reviews. |

When I did 1200+ yards the guy I was with had a cheaper spotting scope (forget which one) and we could see and call corrections with it. "6 inches left".
Was no need for a multi $K spotting scope to call exact corrections, especially for someone other than the person who plunked down multi $K on a spotter. But that probably doesn't matter here |
|

I have one of the Bushnell T series spotters and like it as well. Not near as clear as the S45 but I would say close or equal to the Leopold mil spotters. Plus it has rails that come with it so you can mount your dot and laser.
Those that find ourselves in the ides of life usually need to spend the money on glass just to stay sharp. For young eyes it is cheating. The best shooting instructor I ever had always said "It only costs a little extra to go first class". |
|
Give the laziest man the hardest job and he will find the easiest way to do it.
|
When we shot the 1760 yards, I could see the misses with my Bushnell LMSS (8-40x60)
We just could not see the 260/6.5/308 hits on steel. The instructor had a Spotter 45 and the hits were plainly visible with that. The 338 LM hits were larger and were visible with either scope. |

For right now, I diverted the funds to buy two Honda EU2200i generators (and a parallel kit) since the hurricane is expected to hit us Thursday and dump a couple feet of rain on us Thursday and Friday. You may remember the last time this happened we were out of power for a couple days. ETA - Ha - look at the body on that Bushnell, looks a lot like the Athlon and maybe one other. It doesn't mean the optics are the same, but it looks like the same Chinese supplier is providing the bodies. ETA II - Looks like they fixed the pricing as the Horus is over $1,000 and the regular one is just about $800. |

I'll grab some essentials tomorrow, 20 gallons of gas, four bottles of propane and who knows what else. I have this Ryobi still in the box from the last power adventure that lasted three days, I was trying to find a second so I could parallel it but the whole region was sold out. The shop north of me wanted some serious coin so I kept looking and found a main and a companion in King George's county (along with some Yamaha's, but I'd take a Honda any day). The combo you have is very versatile. I bought the same two used when we got our trailer. Oil change beginning of each season and run them out of gas at the end of the season. They have worked perfectly.

That puts me at 22 gallons for the generators, 80lbs of propane for cooking, 6lbs of propane (small 1lb bottles) for the camping lantern and a shitake ton of batteries for the flashlights. I actually got the last propane refills from Home Depot which is good, saved me the time of treking to the RV campground to refill. All vehicles are gassed which also gives me another 50 gallons I can siphon if the chaos becomes extended. I bought what I wanted at Wallys, so let's see what the wife unit says about my choices. I've charged all the rechargeable batteries and and the battery packs I use for the LabRadar are ready for juicing up the phones and electronics. Looks like my targets arrived so I can get back to posting somewhat relevant content. Oh, and I broke out the OBR SBR and reloads. Being the only one in the hood with lights on could make things sporty if that storm moves north and stalls. |

Looks like Florence is starting to track south to the point we may not even get wet this weekend. I may have loads of stuff to return next week, except the generators, all sales final during a crisis.
Quantico may be having a match this weekend so it will be a last minute decision. |
