Now, the two others, maybe not so much and I do still have my takedown case and toolbox. |

Obviously good shooting! Took the GAP 6GT out today, as usual you just kinda aim it in the general direction of the target and it hits. Mirage was terrible and I had to dial way back on the power to see anything clearly. I did get to shoot a buddy's MPA chassis and the pistol grip is the way to go for me, I don't care for the MPA as much, so I think I'll be ordering an ACC for it. GBPSE I guess. This little fella managed to get consistent hits out to 525. The gen 1 PST 2.5-10 glass was shocking clear, maybe due to the low power and the mirage issues we were having with the higher power stuff. |

I need some reloading help. My AI is chambered in 260 with a 24" Proof barrel. I'm using Starline brass, BR-2 primers, H4350 and Hornady 140 bthp. My load is 41.7 gr which was giving me a velocity of 2750. Can't recall my jump to the lands but its in the .070 I believe. Cases are bumped .002-.003 with a FL sizing die and are not above trim length. Necks are mandreled up with a .002 under mandrel (turning I believe).
Basically I'm getting heavy bolt lift more often than not (of course it didn't happen during load development and only after I bulk loaded 200 of them). No marks on brass but the primers are starting to flatten out, but not excessive. Barnes load data says 42.9 is max for a 140 gr bullet, Hodgdon says max is 42.0 and there's nothing in the Hornady book. I know Starline is pretty thick stuff which would push me towards pressure quicker, but I feel like my velocity and charge weight is in line and below max. Any ideas? The only thing I can think of is a carbon ring but I do a pretty good job of keep it clean, I don't have a borescope to check though. |

Originally Posted By Defender3: The Proof chambers are supposedly to SAAMI spec. Is this a new load with the issue or have you had a heavy lift all along? AIs are notorious for having a heavier lift than other customs actions. Suggestions include placing your thumb on the rear cocking mechanism when running the bolt and applying some grease to the area inside the bolt shroud where it mates with the bolt body. Watch how this Team AI guy runs his bolt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGhLi8eTkAA From the Hide: Something I learned last week. Ever since owning my AI, I have never thought about lubing the back of the firing pin assembly. I did so because my bolt was significantly heavier on open and especially closed ever since getting it cerakoted. Little did I realize it was because the factory grease had been taken off by degreasing, sand blasting, and cerakoting. I greased it up and it feels better than it ever has. Everywhere that is circled in blue. A little goes a long way if you use the right grease. Also grease the rear face of the bolt body where it meets the front side of the bolt shroud. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/52736/20220527_194826-2406421.jpg I ran your load in QuickLoad and it came out at 57,188psi against a 60,000psi max and a velocity of 2713fps. QL is usually conservative in speed and aggressive in pressure, but it seems your load is very close to the prediction. How many rounds on that barrel and what's your cleaning regiment? I'd soak the chamber in carbon remover then scrub it to ensure you don't have a ring forming. If you don't have carbon remover, use a CLR soaked patch for no more than 15 minutes in the chamber, then ensure you clean that CLR out. View Quote Its not just AI heavy, its sticky bolt lift heavy, I don't recall having this problem before with my other loads. After today it has exactly 1000 rounds on it. I typically clean every 200 rounds. I copy Frank's cleaning routine he posted on the hide many moons ago, wet patch (Hoppes 9), let it sit, bunch of passes with a wet brush, let it sit, wet patch, let it sit, then 3-4 dry patches at which point they come out white. I'll try greasing behind the firing pin assembly. I just resized a bunch of cases and they're actually all over max length, so maybe that's contributing. I'm positive I checked that last time and I knew they were close, so this firing put them over. I didn't measure the length before I resized them so can't account for what they were at that point. |

Took my tOBR out for its maiden voyage. Zeroed at 100, then trued data at 700 then had a first round impact at 1000. The 18” .260 barrels are sweet and this gun shoots very well

It screws with you for about a week. As soon as you get on Jordan time, it's time to come back. Making the trip again at the end of July. Might actually be able to get some trigger time this summer. |
