Still Aimpoint-fast at close range and nearly Aimpoint-bright in daylight (I can easily pick it up against sunlit snow at any magnification), but with my 168 Amax/41.8gr AR-Comp/Norma brass/#34 primer (use at your own risk and work up, although this is a pretty softball load) handloads at about 2530 FPS, the BDC reticle and turrets match at this elevation (about 6000') within half an inch or so out to well into transonic (800-900m) range, at which point the stupid boattail on the 168 Amax makes it just about useless. Unfortunately, bullets with better BCs (and proper boattail angles) tend to seriously overfly this reticle beyond about 500m at my elevation. But for 155 or 168 Amax Hornady Black or TAP, I can't conceive of any gunfight I might get into (even well into post-apocalyptic nightmare land) that this reticle, optic, and rifle wouldn't be adequate for. And for anything beyond that (including long range hunting), there's my 18" FDE build with Bushnell XRS/H37 reticle. At some point I'll have to add a .260 or 6.5CM to the family to get my extra far away bases covered. |

Well, I finally got around to finishing sighting in the new Mark 6 on my tOBR to optimize the BDC for a few different rounds. I wasn't being particularly careful, and at 6x looking west into the sunset, it's tricky to hold center on a sight-in target at 100 yards. So imagine my surprise when I looked through my XRS on the other rifle and saw that group in the bottom right:
Attached File Yep, that's 5 rounds. All the other groups were more along the lines of what I expected with that optic and the sun directly in my face. Guess I got lucky! I mean, I totally meant to do that. Sorry about the flier on the left, though. Actually, I was suprised the Black did better than the TAP, usually it's the other way around; maybe the fact that it was only 10F had something to do with it. The powder in both 168gr (TAP and Black) loads exhibited great temperature stability, hardly any velocity change from shooting at 50 earlier this winter. The 155gr stuff is doing something weird, though; I need to shoot it more in some more temperatures to figure out what's going on. 16" PredatOBR with bipod and rear bag as configured when I shot that: Attached File |

Pretty sure the one on the right isn’t a MarkF picture but dang if that one on the left doesn’t look like a cropped calendAR.

My nephew was over Sunday evening and we were playing around with it and an Aimpoint side by side and we couldn’t see any difference at 1 power. Honestly, at one power with the illumination on, the scope just disappeares. I think this optic on this lightweight rifle is going to become my absolute favorite. |
