U.S. Navy
Avionics Technician (AT) Petty Officer 3rd Class 03/01-03/06 Had to get out after my initial 5 years due to problems with both knees (they wanted to give me a medical discharge after about a year, but I talked them into letting me finish my 5 on the condition I didnt try to re-enlist, and stayed out of medical as much as possible). Also, infant son died during my 3rd year, and wife has/had serious medical problems, so being deployed for 6+ moths at a time was just too much for her. Served at NATTC Pesnsacola, MCAS Miramar, NAs Oceana, NAS Whidbey Island, USS Nimitz, USS Enterprise, and USS Roosevelt. Had a GREAT time for the most part, was sad to have to leave, but ecstatic to have been a part of something so amazing. Joined the Oregon State Defense Force after moving here to OR, so at least I could still be doing something, but now have to leave that, as I got layed off when the company I was working for here shut down and let all 1,100 of us go, so I'm moving to WY in a couple weeks for a new job. My IRR ime ends in March, but I'm hopeing they may let me extend it so I can still have access to NRTC's, and at least am available in case something happens and they need help. Cant really do the reserves with the wife's health issues, and the fact I cant pass the PRT with my knee problems anyways (thats why I made E-4 in the 1st year in, but never got to advance during the next 4. Kinda sucked, but I cant blame them either. Why let me advance, knowing I had to get out.) |
