We got word Thursday that we will now be getting plate carriers on all of our rigs after what happened. Our Ops supervisor addressed it to everyone.
We had 21 medics and emts at the event, plus the 10 or so rigs we had arrive to transport after the fact. It's nothing short of a miracle that all of them came out physically unharmed, including the owners daughter.
Seems they are on board with 60k in equipment trumps any loss of life lawsuit. All of the fire guys and PD in our AO have had them for years, and all of them who responded had them equipped. Edit: Except for the private EMS companies. AFAIK AMR and Medic West still won't/don't provide carriers for employees, the medics and emt's have to buy their own.
Had one of the LVMPD guys at the airport tell me, after being dumbstruck, it must clang when we walk because we rolled into what was at the time an active shooter in nothing but t-shirts and started triaging people with zero protective gear other than eye pro.
13 years on the job, that's the second active shooter I've responded to. The day after I finally bought my own carrier with level 4's from Infidel, got it in the mail Wednesday.
