If this post appears messed up I apologize. I'm pretty numb right now.
I got a call this morning from work to tell me that a co-worker and very good friend killed himself last night.
He had been on the job for over 10 years and has been fighting these demons for as long as I've known him. He tried once before about 5 years ago and we were lucky enough to find him. He was doing really good but I guess last night he gave up the fight.
Clyde was one of the funniest people you could ever meet. Every agency has one, the person who can take the most routine shift and turn it into a comedy routine. I can't count the times I came home with sore ribs from laughing at him.
He helped make going to work worthwhile.
Could you please keep him and his family in your prayers.
Godspeed Clyde..you will be missed.

Remember the good times you had with him and try to forget about the bad. Stress from home and the job can overcome people in a terrible way. It sounds like he had friends and was well liked....nothing more could have been done. Sometime the demons win and take a good person from our ranks.

He and his family will be in my prayers.

Thank you so very much for the prayers,words e-mails and IM's.
I was one my way to another CO's house when they called me. After I hung up the first people I thought about telling were my brothers and sisters here. It's hard to believe that words on a web site can be so comforting. I guess it's because of who posted them. Like I told glock918, they mean more then words can describe.

Emergency personel, I don't care if you are firefighters,e.m.t.'s or Law enforcement, We are not superheroes, we see pain all the time AND IT DOES AFFECT US , DON'T KEEP IT IN! I am an Volunteer Firefighter,Elected Constable and work full time with Delinquent Youth in Drug and Alcohol treatment counseling, WE NEED TO TALK AND LISTEN TO EACH OTHER, WE ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND WHAT EACH OTHER ARE GOING THROUGH! If we don't more of us will be lost to depression and despair, that being said.

I am sorry for your loss, we need to to keep these tragedies from claiming any more of us.

your right Fireguy. We had a memorial service at work for Clyde on Tuesday. One of the women at work started a friendship journal for co-workers to sign or leave a message in. It helped to read what people wrote. She is going to give it to his parents. Everyone had a comment about his sense of humor or a story. I wrote about the night he set the microwave on fire in our main communication control post warming up a cup of coffee. It was in a stainless steel coffee mug. The rubber bottom caught on fire and burnt the microwave![:D]

Extremely sorry to hear this. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

There is an extremely high sucicide rate among COs.

I can just hope that before anyone does anything is a state of depression that they can give one a us a yell first so we can help out.

An incident like this truely makes me sad.

Thanks very much everyone. Being able to talk to people who have been there is an unmeasurable help.
Almost a year..much to long John. Maybe soon we will both be home at the same time and I'll give you a call.
