A friend of mine(in PA)who has a Pre-ban Colt AR, wants to be able to shoot his AR here in NJ.  I told him I'd look into it.

He is changing the out the non-PC trigger and selecter switch for something more "PC" and getting a Post-ban NM DCM Upper.

Is there anything else he would need to know that would allow him to make the transformation to a "NJ legal" rifle?

Thanks

what would a regular trigger and selector of an ar have anything to do with a PC rifle.  is he changing it out for a match trigger?  waht are the NJ laws concerning the AR weapon series?

My friend's brother Willed him the rifle.
He was a Green Beret in VN and made some "mods" to the rifle.  My friend wants to get it into a Post ban config so he doesn't get into any trouble.

Someone coming to NJ from PA to shoot, usually it's the other way around. A preban lower that has not been modified which has a post ban upper would be legal in NJ.Why all the bother to shoot in NJ? He's better off in PA.

If it says "AR-15" on the receiver it's banned by name in NJ.  If it says "Match Target" it's specifically allowed.  "Sporter" is not mentioned.  Basically, post-ban configuration all the way.

I'm still looking for the link to the site that describes this in detail.  I'll update if/when I find it.

Here's the NRA link.  http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws.asp?FormMode=Detail&R=NJ  Still looking for the other one.

Here's the NJ statutes link http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/cgi-bin/om_isapi.dll?clientID=100919&depth=2&expandheadings=off&headingswithhits=on&infobase=statutes.nfo&softpage=TOC_Frame_Pg42

This is what I was looking for.  http://www.homestead.com/njccw/njgunlaws.html .  There's another link near the bottom.  Note that this page does not address the new magazine rules change.

Thanks for all of the info.

I think I have convinced my friend to get a 2002 LEGP instead. [:D]
