I have cut (2) 5.5's from 11.5" barrels to get my short barrels. The Bushmaster 11.5/5.5 I had was drilled throught the suppressor in 2 places, and slightly into the threads, just enough for the pin to engage/pin the barrel-suppressor together. Then the hole is welded shut to prevent easy removal of the pins. If you tried to turn the 5.5" off, it would be difficult, and mess up the end of the barrel.
The Oly was done in a similar fashion, but similar to the way the front sight post pins pass through the perimeter of the barrel, then holes welded shut. Oly used a larger pin than Bushmaster, where as Bushmaster just drills a somewhat straight into the barrel surface and installs a pin and welds holes shut.
An option to welding is to contact www.Gem-Tech.com( the suppressor people), as I understand they can do Laser Welding, look into that as opposed to hitting end of barrel with "TIG" or "MIG" or torch.
