Have not seen anyone bring this up so I will.  According to 18 USC section 922(r) it is illegal to assemble a nonsporting rifle with imported parts.  My understanding is that the kits Century is selling are imported.  If that is indeed the case then it would be a Federal felony to assemble one of these parts kits into a nonsporting rifle.

Any one want to come up with a parts count for an AR-15?  That would be interesting...hehe.

Since the parts are (apparently) all Colt-manufactured, it would be safe to assume they were US parts.  Exportation and reimportation doesnt change the country of manufacture.

Parts List For An AK-47. Not sure what an AR would be:

(1) Receiver
(2) Barrel
(3) Trunion ? Truthfully I don't even have a fucking clue what a Trunion is.
(4) Bolt
(5) Bolt Carrier
(6) Gas Piston
(7) Trigger
(8) Hammer
(9) Sear
(10) Disconnector
(11) Buttstock
(12) Pistol Grip
(13) Hand Gaurd
(16) Magazine

My guess for an AR-15 is:

(1) Lower Receiver
(2) Upper Receiver
(3) Barrel
(4) Trunion ?
(5) Bolt
(6) Bolt Carrier
(7) Trigger
(8) Hammer
(9) Sear
(10) Disconnector
(11) Buttstock
(12) Pistol Grip
(13) Hand Gaurd
(16) Magazine

Again these are US parts, Colt's manufactured, but they have been imported, as in have left the country and returned, at least that is my understanding.

That is a good list, I also came up with 16:

(1) upper receiver
(2) lower receiver
(3) barrel
(4) barrel extension
(5) muzzle attachment (optional)
(6) bolt
(7) bolt carrier
(8) trigger
(9) hammer
(10) disconnector
(11) butt
(12) grip
(13) handguard
(14) mag body
(15) follower
(16) floor plate

So you would need 6 of the above to not be imported parts.

SGB

You nailed the biggest problem with 922(r) right off the bat.  That being the specifics of what firearms are actually covered.

(1) upper receiver
[s](2) Lower Receiver[/s]
(2) Barrel
(3) Bolt
(4) Bolt Carrier
(5) Trigger
(6) Hammer
(7) Disconnector
(8) Buttstock
(9) Pistol Grip
(10) handguard
[s](14) mag body[/s]
[s](15) follower[/s]
[s](16) floor plate[/s]

Use A Non-Imported Magazine, Lower, and Muzzle Attachments and you should have no problem.

Just remember this and you should be safe.

DO NOT USE:

1) Imported AK Muzzle Brakes
2) Imported Isreali Orlite Magazines

I don't know how "imported" is defined for purposes of 922(r), but if it was to include the parts kits, you could use no more than 10 of the following imported parts:

(1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings
(2) Barrels
(3) Barrel extensions
(4) Mounting blocks (trunions)
(5) Muzzle attachments
(6) Bolts
(7) Bolt carriers
(8) Operating rods
(9) Gas pistons
(10) Trigger housings
(11) Triggers
(12) Hammers
(13) Sears
(14) Disconnectors
(15) Buttstocks
(16) Pistol grips
(17) Forearms, handguards
(18) Magazine bodies
(19) Followers
(20) Floorplates

What if my "sport" is poking holes in targets?  Seems to be a sport to me.  I see a lot of people doing it.  Sometimes they even give out trophies.

Is there a reason I can't get the spell check to work?

The ATF decided that shooting whether it be target, combat, IPSC, IDPA, etc. Is not a sport. They are a bunch of morons.
