Howdy all, I was curious as to the legal status of a 11" barrel, but with a 5"-6" flash suppressor, i.e. M4 style. It would make the barrel the legal requirement of 16", but i wonder if they mean the "actualy barrel itself", or the total length.

No, the flashhider/muzzlebrake/whatever counts.

BUT, why give up the velocity?  If you have to have a 16" barrel, why not have a 16" barrel (or at least 14.5 & a brake/hider)

Also the flash hider/whatever has to be permanently installed if it's to count towards the 16" length.  If you use an 11" barrel and just screw on a FS, it's still an 11" barrel.

well i bought the barrel a couple of years ago at a gun show, ignorant of the barrel length limitation. Plus, it just looks so cool with a long flash suppressor :)

and thanks for the replies !
