Additional PRK tidbits to be aware of:
- A .50-cal ban was recently killed, but is sure to come up again. Based on the current wording, it would have banned not only .50BMG weapons, but also .50AE and several black powder(!) single-shot rifles, or basically EVERYTHING with a bore of .5" or greater.
- State Senator Don Perata (supreme gun banner), has introduced a bill to tax ammo, at the rate of $.05 PER ROUND. He wants to make up for the Democrat-induced budget shortfall by taxing shooters.
- Additional laws, regulations, permits, licenses, and so forth have made it continuously difficult and expensive to have any kind of FFL in the PRK. Gun shops are closing at an alarming rate due to the combination of not being able to sell what the public wants, increasing regulations and restictions, and increased costs and hassle of "staying legal" with all of the licenses, permits, and so forth.
For example, on the San Francisco penninsula, with a population of 5-6 million people, there are only two gun stores remaining, where there were two dozen of them 5 years ago. In the Bay Area as a whole, the number of shops is down at least 50% in the last 5 years. The rate is similar in SoKal.
- Last, many of the laws are specifically aimed at preventing kids from being involved in the shooting sports. This is deliberate, and despite the propaganda, is not to prevent school shootings or any such drivel. It's to prevent the next generation of shooters from becoming shooters at all.
