Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Can immigrants bring firearms to the US?

I plan on immigrating to the USA as soon as I finish University (I'm Canadian).  What types of firearms, if any, will I be able to bring with me, and what is involved in bringing them through customs?  I assume that "assault rifles" are a no-no, but what about pistols, or non-evil long arms?

I've already checked out the INS and BATF websites, and I couldn't find anything relating to immigrants bringing firearms with them.  Can someone give me an idea as to the legality of this, or at least point me in the right direction?  Thanks!
