owned Colts, Armalites, Bushmasters, Olympics AND Rock River Arms AR-15s?

What I mean to say is:  How many people have ACTUALLY been around the block in regards to AR's?

I'm just curious, because it seems as if a lot of people either own ONE particular brand or Wish they owned ONE particular brand.

I have an Eagle (pre-ArmaLite) AR-15 I put together myself, and a Colt AR-15 that are both pre-bans.  I have an ArmaLite AR10 that was built by Gunsmoke Ent. and a post-ban RRA AR-15 that I just finished last week.

I'm very satisfied with each.

I guess the sear block thing in the Colt gives me a little heart burn but that is usually cured by couple of 30 rounders through it, rapid fire.

The poll is not worded correctly.  I own a RRA, Colt, 2 bushies, and an Oly....  but that dont mean I know what I am talking about!

Been around the block in the service with M16A1s and M16A2s, and now, as a civilian, with AR-15s. Have 5 Colts, 4 of them pre-bans. A couple of them have been completely disassembled and reconfigured several times. Pretty satisfied with the current state of the armory. [:)]

Also own all the tools necessary to do my own wrenching on the ARs. It's actually a pretty simple, easy to work on system once you've learned it.

I also had one of the LEGP ARs, but let it go when I needed to help out a relative. The Colts will never go.

I've got 5 ARs, 3 DPMS and 2 Colt, that were all purchased as stripped lowers and built piece by piece by myself.  I've got all of the tools, including the roll pin punches, starter punches, headspace gages, etc.  and several manuals on AR15 repair and maintenance.

I've put probably 10,000 rounds through ARs over the past few years, taken a few classes, and originally learned how to clean and shoot them in '89 when I went through basic.

And perhaps most importantly, I remember when guys like Chuck and Tweak first joined the old AR15-L before these forums even existed.  I joined the 'pre-ban' forum within a few months of it's creation and have been a member ever since, although I've changed screen names a time or two.  That's several years of learning from the guys who come on here and _really_ know their stuff.

Just got an AR a couple months ago, thanks to the help of all on this forum.  I've shot about 500 or so rounds through it so far.  Yeah, ok, I have a long ways to go.  When your post count on the forum is less than the number of rounds you've shot through ARs, you are an amateur.

Have a Colt, Bushmaster, And a homebuilt on a PWA lower. I don't necessarily think I've been around the block yet but i'm getting there. If it weren't for guns and cars I would have to spend all my time studying for school. What a drag that would be.

I worked on FN M-16's in the service and currently own a Bushmaster. I know how to make them and break them. AR's are pretty simple weapons to work on-hence the reason that the military uses them. IMHO.

I have a Colt 20 in. HBAR. My first and only (so far) AR type rifle. I shoot as much as possible, read, listen, then make up my own mind and do what I think is best for me and mine.

I bought my first Colt AR-15 back in 1974, for the staggering sum of $395.00! I was 22 years old and just learning about semi-auto weapons.

Before that, I had only owned bolt-actions, and one semi-auto rifle - a .44 Ruger Deerslayer carbine!

BTW, I immediately threw away the green label box, and bought a piece of crap nylon bag for it!  Sure wish I had that box now!

Subsequently, I have purchased ten more AR-15s - seven more Colts, and three Bushmasters.

I shoot my Bushmasters a whole lot more than I do my Colts.

I work on whatever needs working on, and do a nice job, if I say so myself!

I spend most (ok, a lot) of my freetime at AR-15.com reading everything I can about my favorite hobby.

I may not be knowledgeable compared to many here, but everytime I talk to another AR-15 owner on the range I have to keep from calling him/her an idiot.

Instead I refer them to this site and hope they learn something.

Been there done that with a Colt Delta, oly, bushy, and one pwa. No complaints here. Limited but through experience! Nope not a rookie here. But not a expert either!

Being one of the newer people here, I joined to learn as much as I can. Lots of smart people on this website! Though I'm not new to the firearms industry, my experience is somewhat new in the AR-15 category. I do personally own 5 of these fine rifles. I owe plenty to a good friend who was in the 82nd. airborne that has taught me plenty. I "blame" him for getting me hooked on these damm things!!

I owned an H&H 94 about 10 years and one wife ago, had to sell it as a result of loosing prior wife. I got into archery pretty heavy and my guns never saw much light. I picked up a bushy a few months ago and have been coming here ever since, great place to learn , sort of like the bowsite w/an attitude. I still only hunt w/a bow , but am definetly shooting my guns a lot more.

Used the M16 and the 16 A1 in the service. Have owned Colts, Oly, Bushmaster, and Armalite. How I only have Colts and Bushmasters. Used and owned for 30 years. I have a mfg FFL and build 45s but never an AR. Like en, use em, know alot about them? Not as much as many.

I've installed all the parts in a stripped lower (American Spirit Arms) but I haven't tried to build an upper yet.

I still don't have any bullet holes in my feet so I must be doing something right. [:E]

Have a BM Vmatch, BM 16", preban Oly 11.5 and HAD to Colt Deltas.  I am definitely not an expert, but this site is one of the only places I can speak to people who know the same or more than I do about firearms.  That is exactly why I keep coming back.

I'm on my 2nd BM, I've had 3 different uppers, here to try to learn.  I've been around guns, hunting, shooting, for 30 out of my 47 years.
My Mom and 2 brothers and about half the people who think they know me think I'm a "gun nut".

I am an AR novice, I just got my first, an AR10 for Christmas. I had been here, on this site, since November getting advice from all the experts here. I have been a weapons afficianado for years with a small but expensive weapons locker and am happy to add the first AR to the mix.

Thanks to all of the experts for the help I found on this site.

Which end of the barrel does the rd come out of again????

I had a M-16 in the Marine Corps that I've never heard anyone else having one of: a model made by GM Hydramatic Division.

Any other vets every carry one of those?

Don't have an AR yet, but am saving my money to buy one of those rare 'Nam era Mattel M-16's.

All my gun knowledge comes from Rouge Spear, Delta Force, bad movies and firearms experts like Ayoob.  Thereby, I too am an expert and everyone should bow down before me and worship me like a tactical guru.[/sarcasm]

I was also looking into building a prototype AR-15 upper in .17BMG caliber. What are the chances of finding hi-caps for this? If I can't find any, was going to go with a tube fed setup off of a Marlin model 56.

I have never personally been in the military and/or law-enforcement, but I have assembled an Olympic AR according to the US Marine Corp M16 manual. And I have shot a few rounds out of it. Those pesky little detents and springs in the take down pins in the AR15 lowers are a royal pain in the neck.

Invidiually, we are probably no Gene Stoner or Mikhail Kalashnikov, but collectively......  For me if you post an idea it may spark an idea for someone else, if I'm off-base, which I have been sometimes, someone will correct you real quick.

your poll stinks because it assumes that a) you have to have experience with all major brands of ARs to actually have some knowlege and b) the knowledge is all or nothing.

thereare some of us here who have experience with a few of the brands (though not all) and have a good working knowledge of the rifle and shooting in general, but, at least in my case, i wouldn't say i've gone around the block with the knowledge yet.

what do you care anyway?  it's generally pretty obvious when someone is shooting his mouth off about something he knows little about (pun intended!)

They work fine.  Some people have bitched about tight magwells, but I have not found that to be the case in any of the ones I have owned.
